The Plough is upside down in South America.

And yes, in the Winters Tale, you exit pursued by a bear, and Bohemia has a coast.

That makes sense, though I meant that 'up' was the same... You mean the Big Dipper's dipping the other way?

I'm struggling to visualise the movement of the constellations - I have done a bit of stargazing, but only for a few minutes in winter I'm guessing you saw the Plough shining very bright when you were in South America, mvp

I often wonder about how the universe looks from other sides of the world. I do remember seeing an upside down moon in the Canary Islands but that could have been the mix of Spanish brandy and heatstroke.



I remember studying The Winter's Tale for A level. The bear part used to make me secretly chuckle. What you on about Will-mate? Great exam stress reliever was the bear.

The Bard was always one of the people in history I'd liked to have gone for a drink with.

Actually today is cooling rain in the shade. Brighton is deliciously bonkers in the heat.

We didn't see the whole of the Big Dipper/Plough/Bears Bottom, because it's too far north. We were looking for the Southern Cross and Alpha and Beta Centauri.

Another constellation with a name that doesn't fit is Sagittarius. It doesn't look in the least like an archer. I know it as the Teapot. .

I like the idea of looking at the edges of the main subject.Perhaps the minor players are more interesting than the hero or heroine. Doesn't 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead' do that?

Handsome cardinal! Never seen a cardinal before. Is it the guys who are red, or are the girls red also?

The guys are all red. The girls - Elektra calls her 'Mrs Cardinal' - have some red, but are mostly brown. They have this great crest.

Saw Lucinda Williams at the Brighton Dome last night. She's a singer songwriter from Lake Charles, Louisana, and made a famous album in the 90s called Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

She's the daughter of poet Miller Williams, who it seems was quite famous, if you know your American poets.

Anyway, Lucinda has been truckin' around since the 70s writing songs about juke joints, alcoholic genius poets, love affairs, and life in rural American South.

She's seen a rough tough slice of life that makes me feel like a delicate over sensitive English rose that dissolves at the first dew.

Her accent is amazing, I wonder if Mr D speaks like that. Or maybe there's different kinds of Southern accents.

Anyway, she interspersed the songs from Car Wheels with the stories of the songs, which was great. And she had collages from her life on a film screen behind the stage, kind of like Mister D's movies.



All these guys she knew, big drinkers, they're all in the songs, crazy poets and musicians, Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt etc.

They remind me of Kerouac and that crowd, with their drink and their wild spirits.

These days though I don't see them as so romantic. I just want to say 'Oh for heavens sake, you're weren't that brilliant, why didn't you just stay off the bottle and behave yourselves.' .

How old am I?? Oh no!



I often think about this.

If I admire the work of an artist, but I find out that, off the stage, or the page, they were awful to live around, does this affect my admiration for their work?

Oh, so Mrs Cardinal is brown, with red tinges though, and a fine crest indeed! She's a very pretty lady!

For this reason I think she's perhaps more subtle and handsome than Mr Cardinal. heheheh.
