I only added it for balance and it was really aimed at the BBC and not you - as many people get their understanding of the world through them and the media in general. One containment of Lego is not going to "ruin the world": non-biodegradable packaging, general waste management and attitudes is the issue. There is a famous containment of rubber ducks that went overboard which provided important scientific data in the understanding of oceanic currents.

Hello beautiful daydreamers

I come with iced Perculiar smiley - tea and some happy smiley - orangebutterfly news, starting to see the peacocks now, fewer but they are here. Me happy.

Well I haven't clicked the links yet but while I don't want plastic in the ocean I would have picked up a green dragon and treasured it too, we picked up a little pirate on a beach seemed fitting.

Nothing wrong with paper from well managed and sustainable sources and recycled and recyclable CC.

I am way more offensive than you. I groan inside when people release balloons, isn't that just awful when you think of the occasions that they are.

We also go to great lengths to catch plastic bags that are blowing around, depending on the challenge congratulations go from- well done you turtle saver through to cheers and rounds of smiley - applause and you will go down in turtle legend as a smiley - hero

smiley - kisssmiley - hugsmiley - snowballsmiley - snowball just to cool everyone off

I've no compunctions at all about picking up debris on the southern California beaches, occasionally to keep, usually to throw away at the nearest convenient trash bin, though many of the so. Cal. Beaches are raked and ploughed daily to remove tidal debris, a process I find objectionable since its disruptive of natural shoreline wildlife.

I remember once, hiking up Santiago Peak, finding an escaped Mickey Mouse helium balloon, picking it up and placing it in the trash pocket of my rucksack.

That night I was able to see the nightly fireworks at Disneyland faintly in the distance.

sky lanterns though floating over and just let off whatever, just cos people are feeling a tinsy bit happy about the holidays, gets my goat it does

The first of my Cherokee purple tomatoes flowered today, a week after being transplanted from a 2 liter starting pot to a 16 liter.

They should be in full fruit by early autumn.

Evening all! smiley - kiss

And rubber ducks and butterflies and red balloons and beach combing and many things and yes and hah! And snowball smiley - snowball for the heated brain, sizzle sizzle ah thankyou. smiley - rofl

And Perculiar, yes please! smiley - teasmiley - tea

I was going to shut up for three hundred and sixty four and a half days, but I changed my mind. smiley - rofl

Yes, the eco question, it's all balance I think. Exeter has great recycling facilities, that's enough for me. I think everyone has to find their own balance.

It's good to be away from the very alternative town we were living in. I prefer the flawed scruff. Suits a flawed scruff like me. haha.

We were on the beach this evening, swimming and looking for purple plastic spacemen. smiley - rofl. It's very strict on the Jurassic Coast, you get fined a thousand pounds if you are seen taking home a rock. Each rock has dinosaur memories.

If you take home a purple plastic spaceman you have to tell him about the dinosaurs in various cryptic languages, and do a series of mimes to further illustrate your point.

That last stupid paragraph reminded me of those little plastic astronauts you found in cornflakes packets. This was the 60s. It made breakfast just so worth it. And you could take your tiny astronaut to school. What else was in cornflake packets? There were other gifts. No point asking you lot, you're all waaaay too young ain't yer. heheh.

That sounds amazing, ITIWBS! A Cherokee purple tomato plant? Do you have any photos?

A thousand pounds, blimey, that is new one, ok I do think in terms geological heritage but that is big change for the coast line that seem to thrive on handing out hammers and chisels for a couple of quid a day while politely reminding people not to chip away at the crumbling cliffs...

No fruits as yet, the plants are still less than foot in height.

The tomatoes are about the same size and shape as medium to large globe tomatoes suitable for salads and sandwiches, but a deep purple in color like a purple eggplant, through and through.

I'll be needing to put up bird netting when they begin fruiting or the little devils will allow none to ripen.

I'll also leave them some decoy tomatoes of the more conventional kinds exposed.

Lets not forget that other indigenous American plant - the cacti. Not sure whether any of them were domesticated - although a good source of fluid in dry environments. smiley - alesmiley - ok

Let me know if the links work okay.

I've got tomatoes of both types in my sample, carefully selected in their parent generation for a deep purple color.

One of the things about this plant that tends to throw people is that the foliage looks like that of an eggplant or New Zealand tomato rather than that of the more conventional kinds.

In a taste test, though, they're all but indistinguishable from the more common commercial tomatoes, slightly fleshier, seeds slightly more robust, rich in lycopenes for flavor.

Good evening, peoples of worldly splendours. smiley - kisssmiley - kiss

Hah! Splendid! The purple tomato looking great! First link won't open, the one that says cabbage hill farm, but the other one worked fine! Thanks ITIWBS. That's amaaaazing! A purple tomato! And your lovely descriptions also.

I never ever knew about purple tomatoes. However old I get, the world amazes me. I hope I'm still in a state of wonder when I take my final gasp.

smiley - redwine

The tomato and peanut both domesticated and developed by Native American cultures?? Really?? That's interesting, SA. And the cactus also.

So we have Peanut and Cactus. And all on this thread. haha. Please bow to us and offer us chocolate and fine wines.

smiley - kisssmiley - kisssmiley - kiss

I do love a cactus. I remember seeing the saguaro near Tucson in Arizona, and they are so amazing, they made me shake and have near death experiences.

Do you have cacti in Cali, ITIWBS? Good short story title, cacti in Cali.

I feel like a cactus. Prickly and defensive on the outside, to defend my inner wellsprings.

I do like an inner wellspring. The thing about the inner wellspring is ...

smiley - run Where you gone? smiley - runsmiley - rofl

Hmm, yes Peanut me luv, seems to be the pink pebbles that are found in Budleigh that are the most protected. But there is a thousand quid fine for removing any of the stones.

smiley - redwine

What about the dinos then? There's this kids' display in the town centre at the moment, right where we park our bikes. There are lifesize dinos and a cave woman with wild hair, wearing skins, brandishing a heavy looking club, ready to take out anything or anyone that threatens. hahaHAH. Looks like me on a good day.

smiley - redwine

I don't know what to say to dinos. I stared one in the eye yesterday. I said something about how I respect the fact that we are related, but there's a distance between us, perhaps we should work on it, otherwise things will be tense at family weddings. Or funerals.

I'm being so stooooopid. I need supper.

smiley - kiss

I tried again and can't get that link to work, unfortunate, since it shows a plant in fruit with globe type tomatoes.
