I have just welcomed your friend and it's just luck that I noticed that he hadn't had an ACE visit.
When you post to a newbies page you actually take them off our "to be Welcomed" list, and because you used "Welcome...." as a subject line I though that another ACE had already been there. (the ... are a sort of ACE signal)
Next time you are first to post would you please just drop a message at the <./>ACE</.> page that the researcher still needs an ACE visit - that way no one misses out

Sorry about that. Thanks for letting me know though. If I do manage to get anyone else to sign up, I'll wait until after they've been ACE'd to start blethering at them.
