Calgary, Canada
Somewhere in Western Canada, near the blue Canadian Rockies, is a fairly progressive and new city called Calgary -- this is where I live.
It's a beautiful, vibrant city, with the most incredible skies in the world.
The weather is constantly changing, along with the mood of its residents, including a very rare phenomenon called chinook winds. Chinook, which means "snow eater" in the native language, can literally change the weather in the middle of winter from -35 C to plus 18 C in several hours.
It is associated with a very large arch, called a chinook arch -- essentially, an almost surreal long band of cloud that passes over the city.
Calgary is a cowboy city, but it is also home to an infinite number of oil company head offices -- hence, the source of our wealth.
Oil is everything here.
And, because of that, we are in many ways, very much like Texas, or at least, compared to Texas.
Calgary also has some of THE best Chinese food in the Western world, specifically Hunan and Szechuan style cooking.
In fact, there are few places in North America, aside maybe from San Francisco and Vancouver, that have Chinese food up to par with Calgary.
They even serve "Calgary-style" ginger beef in Vancouver.
Calgary is a great place to raise children, there is so much do here, and alot of it has to do with the outdoors.
Unlike many cities in the world, Calgary has a strong connection with nature.
Some of the most beautiful mountain scenery is only an hour's drive away. Such is the closeness of our city to this great wilderness, that sometimes, bears, mountains lions, deer and moose, wander into the suburbs.
Fishing is great too -- you can catch Trout right in downtown Calgary, in the Bow River.
Mountains bikes are also big here, you see them everywhere. Including the expensive hybrid dual suspension types.
One of the top-rated mountain bike areas in the world, a place called Kananaskis Country, is only an hour's drive west of Calgary. I've biked it myself, and it is fantastic.
Now, about myself.... as you can tell, I tend to be wordy, which is my lot in life. My hobbies are aviation, photography, cycling, computers, eBay, mountaineering, etc., and I was a devoted listener to the Art Bell Coast to Coast show, until Art packed it in.
I have also investigated the UFO phenomenon, as well as some ghostly experiences.
Would you believe, for instance, a good friend of mine came face-to-face with an ancient ghost in a farmer's field, just outside Calgary? Yes ..... just about anything can happen in Calgary.
Cheers to all
