moving up and down
Posted Jun 7, 2005
it's been a while, so...
Thursday: dad came home from the hospital. he's been feeling much better, has his color and his appetite back, and is walking around the flat and even massaging his own arm.
Friday: movie marathon with star. atlantis pilot + episade "38 minutes", monty python and the holy grail, life of brian, 1 anime
since saturday i've been gradually packing my stuff and preparing to move downstairs for the duration. the painters are coming next saturday. my pc is going downstairs this evening, my clothing and self tomorrow. unless we manage to get a telephone line from the distributer thingie, my internet time will be reduced to 1 hour a day i'm going to dig out one of my coputer games for "brainless activity"
i'm making a back-up of my files, but am worried that will have to reformat the pc after moving it. and the floor tiles i had chosen are not available anymore
on the other hand, my carpenter has agreed to make the wooden cabinets for the bathroom, now i have to take the measurements to draw what i want.
i haven't started the cooler system upstairs yet, but downstairs they have. for some reason i have not been able to sleep the ast 3 nights. i have headaches and am tired. whish i could just jump forward three weeks - or 5 weeks so that everything is over. or if i could live in one of those sf coputer controlled houses - you plan the changes, go out, and when you come back, it's done

just some things...

-the quarterly i sometimes submit articles to called yesterday and asked for something on mexican or latin american children let. i have until tomorrow to inform them wether i will be sending something in or not.
-the writer i very foolishly offered to translate his work from farsi to english called. i haven't read his books yet. told him to call back next week.
- still haven't started translating the articles on comics adib so kindly pointed out.
- my therapist wants me to start woking with a PTS specialist. its necessary, but i'm scared. if i start talking about my brothers death (not the one who bothers me, the one who used to bother me) there won't anybody be here to pick up the pieces.
- i finally found out why i dislike "The Sentinel" series: blairs behavior in the bull pen is like i used to behave in the office when i was working. with the same results. i volunteered to write a fanfiction dealing with the stuff that bothers me.
- my one week off turned into one month (up to now) because we keep having rain showers and cold weather. i can deal with the one or the other, but not both. my sinus infection induced headaches won't get better, i haven't done any physiotherapy in the past two weeks, not used the threadmill for longer, have not done *any* work on my main translation project or my writing project for the past month.
- while trying to wait out the headaches, i managed to get myself addicted to spander fanfiction - and can't let go.
- in two weeks time i'm going on a trip to one of the coldest regions in iran to research the location of my to-be-written book. can't change the travel plans, and if the weather won't get better until then, it will be hell.
- when i get back from that, i have to pack *all* of my belongings including the closets, cause their doors are going to get painted too.
- therefore i have only two weeks to invite falerns family for tea and cake, and my friends for a girls' day in.
- tomorrow is mom's b-day. she's been hinting that she's got a craving for chinese food, so i have to ask my dad if he would mind eating lunch alone - he's still not up to eating in a restaurant.
nim wants a vacation somewhere with 40 degrees celsius in the shade and a large bookstore...

Beginning in sight

The builder was here this morning, and will call back in a few days to give an estimate - including a separate one for the stuff in my flat since i will coughing up 50% of it myself.
Good news - i will not tear out the old window frames and replace them. he will bring somebody to regulate them, replace the soft plastic edges and in general renovate them, and then clean and paint them with new aluminium friendly paint. which means that not only the outside windows but the ones to the inside patio will look new and pretty this alone should lower the estimated costs by about 1000 USD (inclusive buying new and very expensive frames and glass, and the work needed to tear out the old ones and put in the new ones). and only half of the stuff i thought will be necessary before re-tiling the bathroom - which means that i can now afford floor tiles too.
bad news - in one month time i will move myself, my pc and one bag of clothes into the guest room downstairs. after 5 years of almost complete freedom in my personal habbits, this will be hell. especially as bro still hangs out downstairs at night, and it will be very difficult to avoid him.
funny though - the estimate given for the renovation of the house front (two fronts)is only a bit higher than what we paid out to paint bro's flat. i told them from the beginning to call this one - but does anybody listen?

lost story

one week of more or less bad headaches, compliment of a chronic sinus infection. been suffocating myself with fanfiction - because that works better than the painkillers that i'm allowed to take.
spend 3 hours searching the net this afternoon for a "kung fu: the legend continues" slash story. series of stories. starts with peter giving kermit a massage, ends with kermit resigning and writing a book. and in between they buy a house and have kittens. can't find the damn thing!

adding insult to injury

We finally got rid of the noisemaking neighbours in the building next to my bedroom and bathroom, now I have my bro playing loud music next to my office! He's got good taste in music (after all, I got my taste in m,usic from listening to his tapes) but all i can hear from here is a loud wum-wum-wum. well, it's only once a week - the rest of the time he is at work. and once he finishes furnishing his living-room, he will probably move stereo there, and it will be easier.
Bedroom and office mess cleaned up, now I have to go through the stack of note-papers to write up the new phone numbers, and then organize my workload for the next week, ion consideration with pulling daddy-sitting duty downstairs...
