Some people really make me want to slap them
Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Sep 30, 2009
oprah is in copenhagen right now, as is michelle obama and a lot of other celebs rooting for chicago to be elected host of the 2016 olympics. barack obama will be here for a few hours friday
oprah heard the danish have several times been voted the happiest people on so is doing a special on it. it will be aired on 9. october i am told - in 145 countries!
together with all the other stuff going on here right now it should give us a lot of publicity, which is nice because tourism is a major business for us
personally i myself will leave the country next summer when the hoards invade us again
but i digress, back to the slapping business

oh all right then
*puts back in the shark-holster and hands sho a danish instead*
want some with that?
actually, i keep wondering why survey after survey concludes that the danes are the happiest people on the face of this planet
sure, i can name a lot of things that make me enjoy living here, but then i was born and grew up in germany in the danish minority living in the northern part of germany that was once annexed (sp?) by the prussians - so of course i may be somewhat biased
but i hear a lot of people here complaining about taxes and weather and foreigners - and as you may know the right wing opposition here has talked our government into making strict immigration laws and things like that. where the are the (other) happy danes
i don't want to take over this thread but having said what i said earlier i thought i might just get this over and done with so as not to sound overly smug and nationalistic or something like that
so carry one, nothing more to see here

Maybe you're all happy listening to the hot-sexy Danish accent all day?

it's not that sexy to me - but then i grew up with danish people speaking german with a heavy danish accent and german people speaking danish with a heavy german accent...
we had a lot of fun - and still have - with very literal translations between the two languages
i'm sorry i can't think of any right now that would be funny in english though

I'll have to check that out, swl.
I don't know what it is about Scandanavian accents - but they can make me (literally) . Pre-email days, I used to work with a Swedish guy who looked like a bag of spanners but had the most knee-weakeningly sexy voice. Oh my...
It's the start of Korean Harvest Festival celebrations today. There might be rice cakes and soju later. (but only if I am still as mellow as I feel now and don't want to slap anyone)

Scandinavian accents? Nah. Gimme a good old Scottish, Irish, Welsh or French accent any day... now there's something to over!

I used to sit next to an Italian lady at work. She used to ask me lots of questions. I didn't mind at all, I could listen to her voice all day...
It was as much as I could do to actually concentrate on what she was saying, so I could answer the question instead of drifting off and saying "Eh?...what?" at the end!

My husband reported the same about a co-worker from Belize, saying, "it even sounded good when she told someone off!"

I used to have a customer in France and my contact was a very nice man (I supposed - we only spoke, at first) and after a while we began to discuss rugby and other stuff.
Eventually I met him and... Phwoar! totally totally gorgeous too.

There's a mutual friend of my husband and ex-husband... they both used to hint at how weird he was...
I talked to him on the phone once, he had a really, really nice voice and jokingly asked me not to believe anything they had told me about him...
... what a shock when I met him after that. He looked like an unsavoury version of Oliver Hardy, had all kinds of unsanitary, horrible or downright nasty habits and views, and the worst case of halitosis I ever encountered. After that, I always put a big bowl of mints on the table whenever he visited. Luckily, he liked them.
That guy is the perfect Blind Date From Hell!
