As I've only mentioned a gazillion times here since I started again: last August, after a break of at least 12 years I took up running again.
I manage about 3-4 times a week, between 4 and 6km a go (gruesome and weather and light depending). Recently I've managed 2 runs with some guys from work, and they are surprised at my ability. Phoey!
Anyhooooo I have entered myself for a 10km roadrace (well, run) on 21st May ( that's next week!!) has the day off (on a Saturday! lordy lordy, whatever next) and will watch the gruesomes (or even, watch with the gruesomes) while I slog my guts out running 6 times round our small town.
In the interests of training, and getting time with one or more of the Gruesome Twosome yesterday I went for a nice run. Around 40 minutes. Nothing unusual in that. But this time, Gruesome #2 came with me - on her little bike. She has one of those safety flags on it, and a little basket on the front, and with her helmet and ernest serious cycling/running face, she looked just like atom ant.
We did pretty good, she carried a small pack of apple juice in case I had to have a drink, and apart from having to stop twice and walk her accross the main road she really loved it.
And it was quite good for me too (great run) so today I'm hoping to do a wee bit longer with both gruesomes.

I'm very impressed! And good luck for next Saturday
My practically-14 yr old son is on a get fit craze at the minute, so occassionally drags me out jogging with him at 6.30 am
It's nice to find things to do together, though.

More than I'll ever do. I find that walking is exercise enough for me.
So, how are the black eyes?

Good on yer, Sho.
Walking is the only exercise I do too, it made me tired just reading your journal
Black eyes I think you got one of those sports bras didn't you, Sho?

I was trying to pretend to myself that RF hadn't noticed that my boobs enter a room before i do..... unless, of course he could have meant LS.......
I do have Scaffolding Style brassieres (there is no other word for them) for running - but not sports ones, because I couldn't find one big enough
It's sunny today, and cool, perfect running weather - now I have to persuade both gruesomes to try a new route. Somehow, if I'm out with them (or someone else) I can make myself run further and longer than if I'm alone.
Otoh, I have now got new earphones for my mp3 player, so I really want to go out alone so I can run with Pearl Jam.
Decisions decisions!

O Gosh. Wow a 10 km run. I've been going regularly, with a colleague, although we gave up when the light hours dwindled to about 4 hours in the middle of the day during the winter.
10 km is a lot seen from my end of the scale. I'm glad if I can keep going for 1 km before having to find an excuse for a breather.

Well, you know, it depends why you run. The rule is, the one I go by anyway: running for 30 minutes a time for around 3 times a week is good.
Volvic recently did a promotion, collect 100 tokens and get a free year long subscription to Runners' World. Which I did (I drink at least 1 bottle a day at work). In there, apart from the fact that they are all mental marathon runners, they talk about training at 85% of your pulse rate (not sure which - 85% of your max, or 85% over your resting rate - I'll work it out in the end) is the best thing.
From a fat burning perspective: 30-40 minutes running, so that you have to work at it but not too hard (you should be able to hold a conversation with your running partner) is the ideal
For me: if I don't have goal (apart from trying to get/be fit) I don't do it.
Anyway, I've registered now, and I see from the webbie that only about 10 people have registered - online - for the 10k. And I'm the only woman. I have a good chance of coming first in my class (which is now W40 )

Oh and, TC, good for you - running is just about (with the single exception of golf) the most boring sport known to (wo)man.
Taking a breather is ok if you feel you can't run further, just try to do the breather while you walk, then when you're ready run again.
oh hark at me: the expert!!

I've put my running shoes back on too - but am doing it on a treadmill at the gym.
Have I mentioned the benefits of being able to ogle men's legs while I'm at it?
I generally do my run after an hours work on X-trainer and resistance machines - so am fairly knacked by then. My stamina is slowly improving and I can now run for 3/4 of a lap at a time - before having to walk half a lap to recover. Managed two and a half miles of walk/run today .
Good luck with your 10K, Sho.

I'm petrified of trying a treadmill, but I'm going to have to find one for when it gets dark of an evening - I really don't like running round and round the village.
And I really need to do some other type of training - but I'll stick to running for now. There aren't enough hours in the day.

A former colleague of mine used to run on the company gym's treadmill...one day he was so busy admiring the arse of the girl in front of him that he fell off!
Be careful out there!
