nah... me and my mum are on the exact same wavelength...
as for gay... these are South Koreans
Now, I actually think that individually that they are nice chaps. I have been there twice and really have nothing nasty or bad to say about them - I'd like to get that clear, because otherwise I'm being a horribly racist type of person.
I'd also like to mention how nice they were, helpful and so on, when my grandad (BigG) died - they accepted without batting an eyelid that I would drop everything to go over to visit my mum. And while they probably don't feel that someone with young children should work, they don't make a fuss when I go to school stuff like report day etc. (in fact, way back in the beginning they used to send me home if I was still there at 6pm...)
Generally it is the culture of a Very Conservative Male Dominated - which is still around in Germany and the UK (at least) even if it is slowly being suppressed. We have it to do, and rise to the occasion.
And I do understand that there should´be give & take especially when there is a culture clash along the lines of:
Korean staff summer holiday: 2 days
German staff summer holiday: 2 weeks (although 3 weeks is totally normal here)
etc etc
Even so... and and all the rest of it.
er... I've forgotten what I was going to say...
oh yes... gay
One of them went to see Brokeback Mountain with his wife, because she was saying how beautiful it looked and about the Oscar nominations etc. They had no idea what it was about. When the -boys snogged they upped and out of the cinema in shock. He was practically shaking when he told us about it.
So... gay? they'd all faint - or worse.

*Headline*
*Korean bosses suffer mass heart attacks*
*Female staff members do management buy-out!*
That could cure the job situation

when we accuse them of sexism they say, all wide eyed and innocent "but we have a female manager at the HQ!"

Sho - I'm so sorry you're still having to put up with such c*ap
Applying for the new post - and suing them when they don't give it to you might be one way to go? They might be Korean - but they're operating in part of the EU where legislation is supposed to stop that kind of s*i*e from happening.
Good luck - and don't let the barstewards grind you down.

Listen to Teuchter, Sho. I come back to this, as kelli said initially. Seriously, think about it. They have to operate within EU law and EU law says they cannot discriminate. If you have the qualifications, you have the right to be considered on merit. Clouds and silver linings, hon. Opportunities arising and all that malarkey. You have given several years of hard slog at a level you have not been recompensed for. If nothing else, you calling them out will make sure they change their policy and this will benefit women coming after you.
This from the woman who was turned down by a three lettered finance giant for being too 'feminine'
grannies, sucking eggs, oooh look, dinner's served

Go in there on monday, armed with your CV and tell them that if they don't consider you the next phone call they will recieve will be from Strasburg and if they sack you for it, tell every newspaper in the land. If there's one thing I've learnt it's any company no matter how big they are will crumble at the thought of Bad Publicity

Dea.. - call me Mrs B! Posted Oct 28, 2006
Hell, I'm no one to speak cos I'm suckered into a job in a really nice, family run business who pay the lowest wages on earth for the most hours but I would say, go for it! At the moment, I work under a subcontract for a woman who works 2 hours a day for 2 grand a month (UK-tax free) and chucks the whole lot on me! I'm basically doing her job for about a fifth of that and while the benefits are good, it doesn't go near what she is getting! People keep saying to me to go for her job when her contract is up, but I really don't want the hassle! I'm like you and I'm looking at new options and just counting down days.
But on the other hand, it looks good for a new position if you can honestly say that you have applied for higher level jobs and company policy was the only reason you didn't get it! Don't sell yourself short!

I'm teetering again...
the thought of applying for this job and being turned down and have to stay there, with everyone knowing about it...
On the other hand - next month we have staff appraisals. This is when we annually "discuss" my "career progression". Despite high unemployment experience of previous sits vac ads tells me they won't be interviewing until December. So I have a little time to carefully plan a strategy.
I mean - I can see the CVs coming in - so it's no prob to see how that goes first.
