If it makes you feel any better, I wept like a little girl when we watched the movie at school. Very embarrassing.
And I hate spiders.

nothing girly about weeping...
but you didn't have a 6 year old patting you telling you it's just a story...
how embarassing

But...but....but..... Next to Watership down it's the SADDEST story I know - even though it has a happy ending for some...

Watership Down... I've never considered that one to be a children's book though, but yes I was through quite a lot of that one.
I thought that Charlotte's Web might provoke some of that philosophical, but much needed, parent/child talk about death and so on.
But no, my 6 year old isn't quite philosophical enough: she's telling all and sundry that I cried over a book.
sigh.

Cut 'em up small and stir fry 'em. Mmmm
Charlotte's web.. Ah, the memories. I pestered my Mum until I had all E B White's books. Actually, now as I come to think of it, that might just have been the beginning of my obsessive collecting of authors, singers, artists......

you, Psycho Chicken? A freak?
naaahhhhhh!
I do the same thing, once I've read one novel by an author, I have to get the rest. But I have to say that nothing else by EB White that I read matches Charlotte's Web. Not even close.

I always had a soft spot for The Trumpet of the Swan. My primary school librarian actually gave me the book when I left as I'd borrowed it so many times....
