Dear M r Blair,
Having just listened to the 7.00 am news broadcast by the BBC I am incensed, not to say incandescent with rage. I have Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease and have had for some 9 years (diagnosed aged 46. I am in receipt of Incapacity Benefit and Disability Allowance.
I understand from the News that you will be ‘targeting’ those on long term Incapacity benefit with a view to returning as many claimants as possible to work. Mr Blair I would point out to you the following: Your Government is responsible for the last ‘get them back to work’ drive known as ‘New Deal for Disabled People’ which actively discriminates AGAINST disabled people I know. I am one of them.
The legislation enacted by your Government in these matters is undemocratic, discriminatory, inflammatory and downright insulting. I have just heard the 8.00 news in which your forth-coming speech was reported as containing phrases such as ‘rights and responsibilities’. Mr Blair How Dare You since, being diagnosed I have attempted to return to work 3 times.
What has prevented me, has been deterioration in my condition no doubt exacerbated by stress worry and insecurity of the ridiculous Benefits System. You presume to speak to me about responsibilities Where is your responsibility for the Iraq fiasco For which I would imagine the whole country holds you personally responsible.
So having written me and thousands like me off, you now come to see where you can make savings. Well Prime Minister the political environment generated by your laughable commitment to ‘Education Education is in the process of robbing myself and others like me of OUR web site under the BBC’s umbrella called Get Writing here WE are TEACHING ourselves skills here is something Britain can be proud of it has members all over the world and what is happening its closing. Read the attached letter and don’t say it’s an operational matter for the BBC Your Government sets the climate Take Responsibility man
Get it changed before it’s too late.
Yours in Despair C. J. Grahn. Online Get Writing name Chris G
The Before Days
Where once I ran
Now I stumble
Where once I lay
Now I fall
Where once I was a helper
Now I am helped
Where once I laughed
Now I cry
Where once I flew
Now I crawl
Where once I did
Now I scrawl
And the time moves on.
As it should,
My time passes
And their time comes
But my time was broken
I didn’t get my share
Didn’t finish what I was saying
Didn’t finish anything
Not even this
