The Future - A Cynical View
If you recognise the nickname then you will have been around Ashtead, Surrey England during the 1960's and '70's and also know that its origin was partly Latin, partly physical and nothing to do with an Arabic head dress or the late Tommy Cooper & although there have been some comparisons, being dead was not one of them. This introduction will be extended when time allows, during which time I will add a few journal entries. Meanwhile read on and think.
Life is getting more like one big joke as world powers make a mess of our planet while the inhabitants of the real world are forced to stand back and watch in horror. Looking on the funny side makes it all worth while.
Considering the above was first written a year ago and since then the Government and its Ministries have made a right old mess of the foot & mouth outbreak, not much has changed. One consolation is that when a similar crisis arose back in 1967/68, the Internet did not exist so Jo Public had to rely on what the media (TV, radio, newpapers & magazines) fed to the masses.
With the advent of the Internet with its worldwide database, we are all able to discuss problems and ideas with like minded people around the world. To my great relief I have found I am not the only cynic around. As more meet up through the Internet there seems to be a general mistrust in some information given out by so called experts.
I once defined 'politics' as the manipulation of people and events by those in power with the sole aim of maintaining the position of those same people in their position of power. While not all of this is bad, the public are becoming more informed and question those experts.
Somebody once said that "The meek shall inherit the earth". I believe he will be proved right but its a shame he's not around to see it.
Just one useful link for those interested in the UK Foot & Mouth crisis and how the UK government can get it so wrong. I have put it here as I understand that URLs are automatically removed from discussion postings. It is a text only site and therefore extremely fast. You will find all the links and current reports you'll ever want to know on www.warmwell.com .
We've just had our sheep and goats blood tested (August 28th) and not only did DEFRA not know wether they had slaughtered our sheep but when I said we still had them they said they had us down for 42 (Now there's a coincidence for this site) and when I asked where they got the information from they said last years census! I pointed out that then we would have only had eight sheep so they went away and discussed it. They then said it must have come from the previous owner of our property. I said this was unlikely as it had been a cattle farm! And we're supposed to trust this lot to run our country!!
Update from above para. All of September passed without a word from DEFRA. First week in October I got fed up and phoned them, gave them our holding number and after a few moments they found the information and said our animals were OK. I them asked about movemnet licences to be told they have to be moved within 14 days of the results coming through. I said that does that mean now and they agreed. I then asked if I had not phoned for another month, would the 'now' be 'then'? They agreed it would. They couldn't answer my question about having a 14 day deadline from any date between now and eternity because the results coming through had been dependant on my eventually phoning them. What plonkers!
Enough of seriousness I'm going to dive into the rest of the site and let the sillyness wash over me!
