Gnomon - time to move on

Bejewelled Blitz isn't working for me at the moment, but last time I looked you had a score of 200,000.

I can clock up 100,000 in a few games, but I really can't get much beyond that except by pure chance. I think my current score of 180,000 was in the third minute of playing.

You're better.

When I collected my son at 11pm, he couldn't load it when he got home either. I must have crashed the thingsmiley - winkeye

It's not pure chance. It's speed you must build up. But the faster you get, the more the screen lights up, and the more that mechanical voice tells you how good you are. It's very distracting and you have to force yourself to ignore the attempts to put you off, and just keep matching, matching, matching. I was on a x7 for the 500,150smiley - biggrin

I think I got 275,000 once, and I was quite impressed with that. It was in the top 0.3% of world scores or something. Your score is likely to be one of the best in the world.

That fact that my son was impressed made me feel pretty chuffed. They should mint some new badges for this newer version of the game, I reckon almost everyone on my list has got past 250,000 at least once, and that's the best badge you can win.

Will that remain the front page over Christmas, then, or will they put out a new one to cover the Christmas period, do you think?

Not sure. There's a good pool of awaiting FP, it would be nice if they published the lot on Monday and left them there until the New Year, to begin afresh. Have you noticed my article on Roman Gods has been stuck awaiting sub since 22 Oct? Two months is a long time to wait for a sub. I'm too busy to take anything and anyway, I can't take my own articles. I'm writing my Christmas BATS for The Post and want to get started on my next article for PR now Galileo has been pickedsmiley - bubbly

I've been working hard on sub-editing one entry, which has taken me a couple of weeks. Normally I'd get through four or five a week.

Some entries need that level of attention. I spent at least that long on the last Bollywood article. My slow article has been issued now (to David B)smiley - ok

The one that took me so much work was another Indian entry, about films about a particular detective character. I've just finished it now.

I've got my brother and 15 other people coming for dinner on Saturday night, I've got Christmas dinner to prepare, and Mrs G's family coming on the 27th, so I'm unlikely to do any subbing until then.

...and still you sub smiley - smiley

Have you noticed there's nothing in the "returned from sub" pile with a picture?

Nautilus

Yes, I noticed that. But the Eds can find a picture in their library and slap it on.

Looking at the 5 entries ready to go live, that could prove a tad difficult.

They'll probably have the two Galileo ones by then, but they don't know that.

Of course you can.smiley - smiley

I had a quick read through the entry. I'm surprised to find that the "Winter Triangle" is better known, as I'd never heard of it until about 2 years ago, whereas I've known the Summer Triangle all my life.

I think that you're not quite right about the Great Square of Pegasus. Before the IAU set the constellations in stone, the star at the corner was in both constellations - it certainly was in Ptolemy's catalogue, and I think that the star had two names, one denoting its position in Pegasus and the other in Andromeda.

Are there three kid goats? The bright star Capella is the little she-goat. This is obviously something left over from an earlier constellation, as there is no reason why the charioteer should be carrying a she goat and two or three kids under his arm.
