And a big welcome from me as well. I was just browsing through some pages, and ended up here. Always glad to see new people around.
BTW, that thing you just said, baaie dankie or something, where does that come from?

Can I join in on the greetings as well? Saw you as online and *new today* so I thought I'd drop by.
I'm not an official greeter or anything, I'm just trying to find my way...

"Baaie dankie" means thank's very much. It is Afrikaans, one of 11 official languages in Republik of Southafrika.
Afrikaans is a mixture of old dutch, english and german. Swissgerman sounds a bit like it.

I thought it would be something like that. It's a little bit like the Dutch 'Dank je wel', the one that Shazz has already come up with.
Always good to know that my interpretation was correct though. I didn't know there were 11 official languages in Southafrika though

Ja, ja Southern Africa is an imaising country with -to europeans- strange values and traditions. If only I could spear some time to load my work of diploma on my domain, to tell more about a country, which engaged a place in my hard. Please be patient soon there will be more.
