How is it that your page seemed to be waiting for me? What a fascinating thing! I pick an "online now" name, completely at random, and it knows my name! Can you teach me that trick? Would you please?
I'm completely new to this site, and not very adept at this computer thing besides. It's kind of like pulling a coin from behind a childs ear.
Anyway, how else would I start a conversation with a complete stranger?

Hi illustriousfishndogs!
I see Feisor has explained you most of it all, including viewer tag.
Back when I was completely new and didn't know anything about all those fancy tags and in fact almost nothing at all about computing in general, then I used to check out how other people made their pages here. It's really easy. All you have to do is to replace the U in address line with testuserpage.
My U-page is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/U127053
In Guide ML it looks like this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/testuserpage127053
I'll be happy to help you any way I can. Or we can just have a small talk with or whatever.
Hmmmm....
Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 17, 2007
Thanks for that. Yes Feisor did, in fact, explain that to me. The embarrasing part is that our friendly entity did so soon after I had signed up. In detail. With feeling. Ah well, just goes to show you. What, I'm not entirely sure, but it should show something.
I went back and reviewed the page. My head swm. I panicked. I believe I my have gibbered a bit. Perhaps I'll try again. In smaller bits this time, I think.
And I would love to make small talk, though what about, I'm not sure. Perhaps that's the point of small talk. Did you have a particular subject in mind?
Hmmmm....
Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 19, 2007
That's a rather broad subject, don't you think? Hmmm... well, I have a small construction company (just to be interesting, I hired my father, a retired school teacher, to work with me, as opposed to the other way around). I love being outdoors, and I am almost terminally stubborn. I'm of mostly Scandinavian descent, and live in Washington State, about 40 miles North of Seattle. My phone number is...Now, hang on. Perhaps I've gone too far.
One other thing that I would have someone know is that, the day I read Douglas' referance to Dire Straights in The Guide, my heart sang. I was listening to them on the way home tonight, in fact.
I love music. I live for that moment when the lyrics stop and the groove takes off. I just wish I could play an instrument for s#*t. (I can, but I won't admit it. Whoops!)
How about you?
Hmmmm....
Hati Posted Jan 19, 2007
About me? I can't play any other instrument than cd player.
Mostly I am a full time procrastinator. When I procrastinate with procrastinating then I am usually a journalist. That would mean w*rk, wouldn't it? I hate cold weather so this winter has been nice to me. As about Scandinavia, not that Denmark really belongs there but that's the country I like the most ever. Mind you, it's not that many countries I have seen after all.

My great-great grandfather came over on the boat from Denmark. I'd love to do a little travelling around there, as well as Sweden, Norway, the U.K., Ireland, Scotland...Okay, so I guess you couldn't really call that "a little traveling". It will be a while till I getaround to that, though. I have a three year old daughter, so I'm ore home-bound for a few years. Absolutely worth every minute, though!
I've been to two countries, other than the one I live in: Japan and Canada. I will eventually add a few more to the list.
A journalist, are you? for a paper? Magazine?
Hmmmm....
Hati Posted Jan 20, 2007
Maybe you'd like to join the Nordic Club then? It can be found at A614567
Three year old daughter? Cool! They are so sweet at that age.
I w*rk both for paper and radio. Local stuff. Nothing posh. But pays the bills.

Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 20, 2007
Thanks for the advice about the Nordic club. I think I will! And anyone who can make a living from ideas in their head (instead of from other peoples heads) is aheadof the game in my book. What kind of stuff do you write (or write about)?
Hmmmm....
Hati Posted Jan 20, 2007
There's not that many jobs where they pay only for talking.
I write mostly about consumer issues, culture, education, social affairs and such. Quite random, really. This week (it's a weekly paper) my main topic was e-voting on upcoming parliament elections. For the radio I do everything exept sports and crime.
What's in your book?
Hmmmm....
Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 20, 2007
There are a few jobs that will pay you for talking, but not many that are respectable, so you do have a point there.
Hmmmm....
Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 20, 2007
It's an expression that means something like "ahead of the game in my way of thinking".

I was reading the Salmon of Doubt. There are numerous mentions of the site in there. Being an avid fan of Douglas Adams, I had to check it out. I'm SO glad I did. I don't get to be weird with too many people these days, so it's refreshing, to say the least. Also, I've always loved to write, and this sort of makes me use that part of my brain.
Hmmmm....
Hati Posted Jan 20, 2007
You can't really be weird with people here. It would be too normal.
Have you found anything interesting here yet? What do you expect to find anyway? Or rather, what are you looking for?
Hmmmm....
Phaid the Deranged (and silly) Posted Jan 20, 2007
Everything I've found here is interesting! As to what I was or am looking for, I'm not entirely sure. I've enjoyed reading some of the entries, I've enjoyed talking to other grown-ups (my daughter is three, so our conversations are a little different), but mainly, I've enjoyed the levity. The mere fact that silly is considered normal here gives it a huge bonus as far as I'm concerned!

I have been around for few years here. After doing a little bit of this and that I've decided to spend my time hanging around with my friends and occasionally make new friends. I don't really write guide entries (too much like w*rk and in foreign language anyway) and I hate all the argueing going on around those. Not that I don't like argueing as such - could make a nice sport.
Somewhere around here I have a summerhouse, feel free to hop in and meet the regulars there if you feel like having more people around. The summerhouse is here A797420 , just find the latest posting (unless it's my bedroom, of course) or make a room for your own.

Thank you for the invitation to your summer houes. I will certainly take you up on it. I was curious about your "foreign language" comment. What is your first language?
Key: Complain about this post
