Vows and fireworks
Posted Jul 5, 2000
The wedding was... well... a wedding. Actually it was the most efficient wedding I've ever been to. Ever see "Joe vs. the Volcano"? (one of my favorite movies) When they get married, and the chief says "Do you wanna marry her? Do you want to marry him? Ok, you're married" It was like that... and the reception was fun, but not overdone (I've been to too many huge italian weddings). The best part of the wedding was when the bride arrived atthe chapel and realized she had forgotten the license at the hotel. So Amy and I hopped into my car, raced to the hotel, raced back, and the wedding proceeded... We laughed at how we couldn't be late now, because it couldn't start without us. And the couple who got married were so happy when it was all over, and I'm sure they'll have a great life together... but I can't get a grip on them being married yet... I think they are just playing, you know... oh well...
But I got back to see the fireworks here in NY (the wedding was up in Fort Drum, near the Canadian border). A bunch of us walked across the walkway on the Triboro bridge that separates Queens from Manhattan over the East River, and is a couple of blocks from my apartment. It was a great place to watch the show, you could see all the way down the river, and even the fireworks on the other side of manhattan. It was pretty darn cool...
but here I am, a four day weekend and still not happy to be at work.

do you take...

So I'm going to a wedding this weekend...
A friend of amy's... she just graduated and is marrying this army guy. Oh, and they're good together and I like him a lot, and all... it's just that... Don't you all think they're a little young for all this? I mean, they both are younger than me, and I can't even see marriage as an option yet... So maybe that's my problem... I'm not ready for it, so I assume no one else should be...
Nah... they're making a mistake But god bless 'em anyway...
And really, what were they thinking planning a wedding for fourth of july weekend? Waht, no one plans trips for that weekend or anything? *sigh*

Mermaids
Posted Jun 26, 2000
So this weekend, my Amy, and a friend of ours (Bill!) went down to Coney Island for the annual Mermaid Parade. It was the most fun I've had in a while. All the freaks come out and dress up like mermaids/men, mer-transvesties, tritans, fish, and other nautical creatures. Some people were bearing quite a bit to the crowd, but seashells and body paint covered... most. It was beautiful out, and we drank yummy daquaris and then rode the Cyclone (note: not a good mixture). We then went over to Sheepshead bay to this fantastic seafood restaurant (to keep the theme going) Lundy's...
Then Sunday I had to help my friend move... Nothing like carrying heavy junk down from a 3rd floor walk up in the heat while double parking a van in Manhattan... But we worked fast and I think I built up a nice karma buffer.
And here I am ... weekend over, sunburned and with aching muscles....

Chicago
Posted Jun 23, 2000
So, it's decided. Big Tony and I are going to Chicago to see a Cubs game next month. This is all part of my goal to visit a new ballpark every summer. My girlfriend of course thinks I'm crazy. But we're staying with a friend of mine from college whom I haven't seen since graduation, so it will be great to see her too... and it makes it a tad cheaper. The trick was finding a weekend the Mets weren't in town and the Cubs were (yes, indeed, I am a Mets fan... {rooting for the underdog is always much more rewarding...}). Unfortunately the game we're going to is against Milwaukee... So not really a contest I care much about, but fun all the same.
I love random weekend trips. It just gives you a renewed sense of freedom. "Yeah, I think I'll go to..... umm.... Chicago" Why the heck not?
