Hello! I thought you'd better have these:

And again here:

A four-day old newbie who wants to be a Miner quite badly. But he or she seems to want to do a lot of things quite badly, all in the first week. So ... hope I did the right thing replying there, by the way.
(Oh and I already let MJ know. Didn't want anybody feeling left out )
Hello Waz
LL Waz Posted May 11, 2006
Cheers Trin
Your answer to him was spot on. Jodan usually deals with recruitment but he's kind of 90% on vacation just now.
I'll go answer on the Volunteer to be a Miner thread. If MJ hasn't got there first.
I've noticed Jimster using a three month guide before - I think that makes sense.

It's rather nice when they rush into hootoo and want to do everything in the first week! A bit frightening too.
Three months - that sounds about right.
Took me two years to volunteer for *anything*
Glancing across ... no, I think you'll beat MJ to it *Places small tick in the secret 'UG Ed of the year' notebook*

Oh please, is there a bonus ? I've always fancied a bonus paid in oriental rugs.
I said couple of months in the end - three is no time at all now, but it used to be. I keep forgetting that.
Two yearsis just precipitous - I took three and a half.
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted May 11, 2006
Oriental rugs, eh? I'll see what I can do ...
Two years is clearly impetuous and headstrong in that case. I'm very glad I did start getting involved though ... I feel a lot more 'bedded in' now.
(Well, I say 'getting involved' ... obviously, there was Jodan, there was the coldness of the King's shilling in my hand, the whiff of chloroform - then it all went dark).
Hello Waz
LL Waz Posted May 12, 2006
Me too. Most of the time .
There's no news yet to unglue you from your seat, btw.
That was kind of impetuous too. If we don't hear before the weekend, well, you're stuck through to Monday . Hope you don't have a lawn to mow, or a vist to the DIY Saturdays-R-Us store.
(Chloroform ... you know I never actually volunteered to be an UGed ... woke up one day to find I was one ... oriental rugs ... no, didn't wake up on an oriental rug, it's just ... well, sheepskin rugs are really good too ... I do like sheepskin ... white sheepskin's not on, given the coal fire an' all... soot, coal dust ... got to keep to dark colours ...)
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted May 21, 2006
Dark ... sheepskin ...
I've looked everywhere!
I'm really enjoying the Front Page this week - the idea of one UG piece lurking hidden inside another one ... appeals to me for some reason I can't quite put my finger on. Seems in keeping with that one, somehow.
Er ... those two.
Whatever

psst, Trin...
Can you tell me why "Vile thought that it is, you still know that they did." isn't a proper sentence?
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted Jul 25, 2006
Er ...
It looks all right to me. Just about. Shifts subject a bit awkwardly in the middle, but I don't know I'd say it was 'improper'
Where's this from? Who's going around laying down the proper law?
Hello Waz

Check here, F74130?thread=3236951
Seems ok to me too, but I'm shaky on this stuff.

Came across this, and it seemed sort of relevant http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5244738.stm
Like the suggestion that Eastenders should be subtitled... too right it should .
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted Aug 4, 2006
Dearie me ...
It is sadly true though - I've met many people who, when faced with any sort of accent different from their own, give up immediately. "Huh? Wha'? Pardon?"
Me, I now know what 'happed' means So it's been a profitable polish
Hello Waz

Near Shrewsbury huh? I drive through it three times a week.
I read a theory once it came from something like Scrobbiesbury - not that that helps with the pronounciation argument.
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted Jan 31, 2007
Worcester - not all that near, but near enough to have a strong and pig-headed opinion on 'Shrewsbury'.
That's quite a leap, from Scrobbie to Shrew. It would cut out the arguing though.
I quite like the idea of everybody being right on that one now.
Hello Waz
LL Waz Posted Jan 31, 2007
It is a leap - they said it was to do with scrubland, which the landscape around would have been.
I think Shrew is gaining ground.
Worcester is similar territory, you could hope to find hobbits there too.
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted Jan 31, 2007
Ah - Scrubbybury. That makes sense!
Hobbits? Never seen one. I was going to say something about Tolkien and the Malverns there, but I'm probably thinking of Elgar instead.

Me neither, but there's places round here where they'd fit right in.
Btw, I re-emailed the December picks to that second address the Eds suggested we cc to. Wish they'd get that email sorted out, you don't know if you're pestering or whether the email never got there in the first place.
Hello Waz
Trin Tragula Posted Feb 1, 2007
Disconcerting isn't it? I did start wondering if were ever going to hear from anybody ever again. I know what you mean about pestering too - this is no good for my nerves!
Am I imagining it, or is that the third picture in as many days on your PS? The old Waterhole had a very calming effect, you know
Hello Waz
LL Waz Posted Feb 1, 2007
You're imagining one of them. What did it look like ? The rhino was a stop gap while I hunted for this one. Not easy finding a particular tr cartoon. The titles are not obvious.
The old Waterhole is in storage - seems very hootoo.com now.
We could hold next week's supply of links to ransom ?

I keep finding alashudderbaster all over the place. Weird, totally weird. Haven't a clue how it's happening, anyone would think the had been by...
It's an omen. Must be. What of, I don't know, but it just can't be anything good... nothing good can come of alabaster.
I will keep a watch for woods on the move .
