h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Welcome, welcome, welcome, to the wonderful site of H2G2 (other wise known as hootoo - you will see this word a lot). I am an <./>ACE</.>, and I'm here to help you settle into your new home

I've created a little list of links, just for you, so click here <./>A1159210</.> and have a look at them (actually the links are my daughters...but hey!! Hootoo is one big family )

If you click on each link, they will take you to parts of hootoo no sane person should ever go alone on this site.....

......but as it seems no one here is sane, it doesn't matter does it!

Have a look around, pop into my personal space and read some conversations that I have on the go at the moment and you will see how things work. Don't be frightened to jump in on conversations, hootooers don't bite (well, some of them do, but I'll steer you well clear of those), just be aware of the thread you are reading and whether or not it is a private conversation between two people.

Remember, if you get lost, shout for help and hopefully I'll be around to give you a helping hand. In case I'm not around, just leave a message here <./>ACE</.> and someone will be with you just as soon as they can. Failing that, just click on MY SPACE on the left hand side of your screen and you'll get back to your personal space.

Thanks Lil I was just beginning to wonder what I had got into. I am still not sure I should be here. What is it all about. Are we all aspiring writers? Or what?

We are a community, there are writers, poets, philosophers, antagonists and every type of person you will find in RL (real life)

If you wish to write, you can contribute to the Guide or the Underguide depending on the type of subject you are writing about.

Of course you may prefer to play word games, or join in on Role Play games..

If you give me a list of your interests and if you are not too shy.. your age.. [I am 50 and I love the Serious Role Play games (SRPgames)] and I can find some areas that will help you adjust and ease your way into conversations with other researchers.

Thanks so much for your Mail.

There is no point being shy about our ages I don't think - I have never tried to hide mine. I was 60 in 2004! But, thanks to my mother's genes I look younger and don't feel any different than when I was 20. I just keep away from mirrors as much as possible

I have always been a writer but have never made the big time. I have had short stories published and in 2003 won The Lady Magazine Short Story Competion, which was a huge boost. Today (4th Jan) my second story for The Lady is due to appear

I have loads of things I am interested in - theatre, gardening, embroidery, patchwork, cake decorating, cooking, learning languages (you name it I've tried it!) Love travelling, though Boxing Day's events put you off a bit don't they? Still we (my husband and I) have never let the fear of danger stop us doing what we want. We have two children and three grand daughters. We lived in Zambia for three years in the 1970s and moved to Devon to run a B & B in 1992, which we are still doing now.

Our son moved to Sydney in 2003 and in October we visited him, his wife and our newest grand daughter (we stayed in Penang on the way back where 44 people were killed on Boxing Day!)

So, that's a bit about me

I'm just popping into this convo to advice you about house rules...don't want you getting scuppered!

The BBC have the right to use anything that is done on h2g2...this is explained in <./>houserules</.> If you want to use anything you write on here, then best not to post it here, (if you see what I mean - god, mother said I was sooo good at this kind of thing )

Also, if you want to do an Edited Guide, you cannot use something that has been posted or published elsewhere outside of h2g2 (I know, it gets ever so confusing remembering all this stuff!)

One suggestion I could make is to write stories for <./>ThePost</.> They go online on a Thursday and it stays up for a week before the next edition is done...that's up to you, but as you're already an accomplished writer, perhaps you might like to bring some of your little ideas on here.....

Anyways...I shall now depart and leave you in the hands of my mother....Don't say I didn't warn you!

Such a pity "Get Writing" is closing down in a couple of months, that might have been the perfect area for you.

If you wish, I could introduce you to two friends online, ViveAnn and Scandrea. They have both been active in hootoo and Get Writing. They might be able to show you areas of which I am unaware

They mainly deal with Sci-Fi writing, but don't let that put you off, they are both deeply involved in the Get Writing area, and may be able to assist you in settling in hootoo too!

Sorry to have taken so long to reply to your welcome message. Actually I almost missed your message as it was in among the messages from your Mum.

Am I to understand that if I put something on this website it then belongs to the Beeb and I cannot publish it elsewhere without asking them? (I really must look at the houserules).

I have just looked at your journal and I hope someone has now written to you - well I have for a start!
