Hi Jaz'd!

Thanks for the welcome to United Friends. I started off pretty quiet here the other week, but now have a few conversatons going and just realised that I wasn't keeping up as well as I could have, because I'd not replied to you yet! Apologies, forgive me? smiley - erm

Just had a look at your personal space and I think you'd get a long pretty well with me and my other half - I grow habaneros, birds eye and all sorts of chilli's and he cooks them in his........curries! My music tastes are quite eclectic, from classical to pop (80's and current) to Prince to jazz and blues - my iPod has all my favourite stuff on it and I'm nowhere near filling it up yet!

I'm loving every minute and part of hootoo so far, although I think you're the first person not in the UK that I've spoken to! With some time I'm sure I'll meet people from all over the world just like you have.

Well, shall sign off for the evening, hope you had a good weekend, and hope to see you soon..........I promise to bring smiley - choc next time!

Hi Jaz'd

How is this week going for you so far? For me, the time is going sooooo slowly at work it's ridiculous! I guess it doesn't help that I'm a tad bored at work right now, give it a couple of weeks and I'll be run ragged - I wish it was a bit more consistent. Oh well, only 2 days and then it's the weekend and I am very much looking forward to it smiley - winkeye

Thanks for the link to the ruby website, we'll have a look at that this weekend to get ideas for our dinner!

Hope you're week is going well and fun smiley - biggrin

smiley - sorry to have missed your posting earlier Jen! My week's actually going quite well, smiley - tafor asking. I'm currently listening to a CD by a local saxophone player (another site for you to check out) - http://www.kentsangster.com of the 3 song samples, I'd recommend Sonnyside, but that's just My favourite.

The 'ruby site' actually was somewhat of a ruby of a discovery - as in unearthing a gemstone (hmm, gemstone...why does that sound familiar?smiley - winkeye) I found it as a result of a word search for 'curry & curry preparation' I believe it was, & in fact had even contributed a couple recipes. One a vegetarian recipe for tofu with potatoes & okra, the other for Rogan Josh with Italian-spiced bison sausages. It seems to me the traditional meat is lamb, but I like (must be the Jazz influence) to improvise.

Anyway good to hear from you & I hope the next 48 hours or so go smoothly. Oh & of course that you enjoy the weekend! Let me know what you think of the site(s). TTFN

Hey Jaz'd!

How's it goin'? Liked that Kent Sangster website you pointed me to - took your advice and downloaded Sonnyside. Gave me a real reminder of what "proper" jazz should sound like. Actually, it reminded me of this great jazz club in Frankfurt, Germany which I went to once with some friends, it was a real laid back place and the jazz band was a simple 3 piece; sax, piano and drums in a basement bar and they played pretty much all night until the bar was empty, so laid back it was horizontal, and I loved it! There is a place near where I live that Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Lane (heard of them?) run, and a lot of the music there is jazz and blues so I'm lucky that I can go see live music as often as I like. Going there in a couple of months to see one of my favourite bands from the 80's so I'll be going back in time that night smiley - musicalnote

Hope all is well with you!?

smiley - wowThis really kept getting pushed further & further back by newer/more recent postings! It's a good thing I searched it out or who knows how far back it would be in another week or 2! Yes I'm doing fine Jem ...can call you Jem, can I? Glad you enjoyed that Kent Sangster track Sonnyside! Yes I have heard of both Johnny Dankworth & Cleo Lane...actually moreso of Cleo, as she's had an impressive career.Have been catching a fair bit of live music, this drummer among other people http://www.tylerhornby.com on a hiatus from his quartet (sometimes quintet) Terrain who're a contemporary Jazz favourite of mine. Oh speaking of Terrain, they often use a very impressive Bulgarian-born keyboard player (who coincidentally has his own site http://www.kristianalexandrov.com ).

And actually this Thurs. I'll be attending a CD release party (even though I've already bought the CD)for a local drummer who just launched a site awhile ago - http://www.sandrodominelli.com . Other than that...let's see, no major culinary news...oh had found both some very nice Polishsmiley - chocwith a minimum of 90% cocoa solids & some surprisingly goodsmiley - cappuccinocream-filled Germansmiley - choc. Butsmiley - yawn that 7 hr. time difference is starting to take effect & I must get off to bed before I fall asleep@the keyboard. Hope all is going well & I'll try to reply earlier next time - TTFN*waves*

*waves back* Hey Jaz'd!

I must admit, I kept coming back to this message to see who had posted last thinking that I was the one forgetting to reply! No probs, real life gets in the way and newer postings always catch your eye first don't they!?

Of course you can call me Jem! It's what I answer to at home smiley - winkeye

Sounds like you've been having some luck with unusual chocolate hunting! I was in Rome last week on business and managed to try some proper Italian pizza and some lovely cheeses. Have you ever had cheese dipped in honey? Not something I would have thought of trying but with the older harder cheeses, dipping them in honey (or marmalade) was a very nice taste bud experience! We also tried 4 different types of wine on one night (not whole bottles, just glasses) which was lovely - boy did our Italian colleagues really spoil us!

Have fun at the cd release party, sounds like fun! A friend of my Dad is in a band, actually I think he's in about 4 bands! We went to see him recently in a local pub - it was a tiny venue and everyone squeezed in and it was a great night!

Well apparently it's going to snow here this week, not sure how bad it's going to be but it always comes back right when I think Spring is round the corner smiley - smiley

OK, I'm off to catch up with some posts, hope you manage to catch up on your zzz's. See ya soon!

Hi Jem!smiley - smiley

Oh you're so right about that, "newer postings always catch your eye first". And real life, if it doesn't exactly get in the way certainly can complicate things!

It's a coincidence really that you mention going to Rome. I found both those smiley - chocs, as well as another fine Polish one (individually wrapped & filled with an espresso simulation/facsimile)@a large Italian supermarket. Also I had just purchased a book on the various varieties of rice - including numerous recipes -, & was subconciously planning to try my hand@cooking Risottos, etc. Hmm, cheese dipped in honey or marmalade...I suppose I can see it enhancing or complimenting some cheeses - I'll have to try that!

And speaking of small venues, the club I normally visit was one of the venues hosting a big band festival this past week - http://www.jazzworks.casmiley - musicalnote. I didn't even try to squeeze in, as it too is smaller. Add to that the fact that many of the students invite; parents, aunts, uncles, siblings or whatever! But in the past I'd heard some great music there. Of course the more traditional big band repertoire but also a surprise like a very well-arranged orchesrtral version of Donovan's Mellow Yellow!smiley - cool

In any case, just thought I'd reply promptly this time rather than have to search for this thread later. Hope all is going well, TTFN*waves*
