h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I saw this film Thursday last... It was absolutely superb. I can't remember the last time I saw a film with such power. Hitler - his madness, the Nazi mentatlity the bloody saveragery of the war all stuningly portrayed. Reminded me at points of the Mask Of The Red Death. As Hitlers close afiliates danced whilst the SS executed civilians suspected of deafeatism or soviet leanings and the Hitler youth was left to fight the red army as it over ran Berlin.

I lso saw the Machinest the other week and that was also muchly enjoyable...
But I do insist, sincerely, that if you've not seen 'The Downfall' do so at the first opertune moment.


By the bye, I arrived late for the showing of The Downfall so I decided to watch something else as I waited, so I saw Constantine, to judge it for myself... It was as astonishingly bad as I both expected and heard it to be. I hadn't walked out on a film since Hope Springs [a rather awful romantic comedy], I will say that this for it though, the CGI visuals for hell did look like they had come from a a superior metal band music video... But the only real highlight of the film for me was when A Perfect Circle's 'Passive' was used on 5the soundtrack.

Coo, that does sound like a good film. Was it on TV or a DVD?

The Downfall? There is really much in the way of gore... It manages to portray the horror of war sucessfully without resorting to blowing people up.
Someone told me when I was recommending the film that they'd heard it described as humanising Hitler, I take the converse view that what it does is not fall into the trap of portraying him as some remote incarnation of absolute evil, which is methodology best left to kids cartoons.

No, I find the psycopath but ungory part more scary than gore which is just gross. It hits home too much. I know a bit of what happened then, couldn't stop reading of it in my teens, but can't stomach more. The Holocaust museum in DC was the limit I think, since then I can't take any more.

Oddly enough, I read the nonexistant "n't" anyway, had to look hard for where it might be missing!

Perhaps it was the context it was in... Or you're used to reading my typing, as I'm always dropping n't from sentences completely changing the meaning.

Always been a sloppy reader... How else could I wolf down so many SF books as a teen
