Thanks for the welcome, chuck. As you know, I'm new here and as soon as I've had a little time to settle in, I'll see what I can do about contributing something. A friend of mine from Canada has also recently joined the guide, which I'm quite proud of as I was instrumental in getting her into HHGG in the first place. I realise I probably don't need to say this but please give her a special welcome and help her feel at home. She goes by the username CompromisedSanity.

I have a question. Is there anything like a chatroom or instant messenger system on this site? Or are there any plans to set one up? The BBC would probably have the resources to do it. There is a site I go to regularly based on the works of JRR Tolkien called Councilofelrond.net and they have a well moderated series of rooms that are quite popular.
Just a thought.

h2g2 don't have a chatroom as such but a lot of the researchers use MSN and Yahoo IM (myself included), I think the BBC are cutting back on the chatrooms they have, a couple of years ago the Messageboards users and the site managers got into serious rows after many of the cult chatrooms were closed

That's a shame. Never mind, eh? Can't have it all.
I dont use IM as its my fiances' pc that she uses for her degree course. It would be a bad thing if she was suddenly interrupted whilst working... :P

Ah ha, and answering the akward questions like 'Who was that woman' and 'Why did she call you darling'

LOL. Something like that. It's bad enough with her getting suspicious when nothing's actually going on. That's not my style anyway. There's a very good reason why I asked her to marry me. The only one that counts.

I can see this site becoming my latest obsession. I just discovered the Thingites. Looks like it's right up my cup of tea.
Excellent.

Ah, obbsession is the right word with this place I'm afraid, there are many many weird and wonderful organisations, try P.U.D.D.I.N.G, it's for people who hate being told to 'Cheerup' or 'Have a nice day'
