What beautiful words of wisdom. smiley - smiley I agree with everything. I have made it a goal of my life to leave everything I come into contact with, even just a little better than before we met. I especially love the honesty of animals. No game playing there. I am 41, and live in Canada, near Niagara Falls. I am lucky enough to live in a small village (appr. 1000 people) with an abundance of woods, hills and water. It must be amazing living in Africa. No wonder you have 8 dogs! My African grey is fairly savage. I dream of winning the millions and flying him to Africa to be free. I got it as an adult, and it must have had some awful experiences. I love him/her, anyway. smiley - smiley What kind of music do you like? What is the time difference between us? It must be about 8 hours. I looked you up in my atlas. I'll bet the weather there is lovely. I really enjoyed reading your journal. smiley - smiley I shall make your homepage a regular site to visit. smiley - smiley

Hi there Alicat,
Thank you for visiting me.i am very happy that you enjoyed reading my page, there is not too much there at present but i like this place and have every intention of getting it jacked up with time.I would be delighted to have you visit me,as indeed i shall be delighted to visit you on a regular basis.
There is much that i love about Africa,if i start talking about it there is a danger that i could waffle on forever. However if i summed it up i would say that the real beauty lies in the landscape it self, which is vast and very very varied, the sense of freedom one has and the feeling of being in a new and exciting country.
I am not sure of the time differance,i think i am 6 hours ahead of american EST.
The weather here is lovely, again, another one of the reasons why i like it so much, particularly as i come from London originally.
I am very fortunate with regards to music in that that i enjoy a very wide variety from differant categories.I have a fairly large CD collection,a lot of blues,jazz,70s/80s stuff(not pop)Van morrison,U2,santana,Jeez the list goes on and on.I love classical music, more recently i have got into opera,i love spanish and italian stuff as well. The last CD i bought was Santannas new one which i think is superb.I am not too crazy on heavy stuff although every now and again one pops up that i enjoy.I like some of the old heavy stuff though which i didn't really at the time so much, cream, deep purple pink floyd.I went to one of Dave Gilmours parties once, had a real blast. There is also a lot of African music that i enjoy, particularly people like Salif Keita fro Mali.
Looking forward to chatting
Take care
Noname

The more I read, the more I like. smiley - smiley I like all the music you named, although I've never got into opera. Peter Gabriel does a lot of stuff with African rhythms and musicians. He's my favourite, as I guess you know.

It must be wonderful to have travelled so extensively. I've only been across Canada. And we're right near the border of the states, so I've been to a few places there. I envy the researchers in England. They get together in real life. I've met so many interesting people here.smiley - smiley

I'll visit again soon. I really like talking to you. smiley - smiley

You will always be welcome Alicat,i like talking to you too.
I have seen Peter Gabriel a couple of times, although he is not my favourite artist he is obviously very talented. The last time was at one of the prince of wales things at the Royal Albert hall,i didn,t meet him,but for some reason he was in the bar with the mere mortals, and he struck me as a nice enough guy as well.
Yeah opera...i can hardly believe it has grown on me,i certainly never used to have an ear for it.My favourites are Latraviata and la Boheme, especially when i am soaking in the bath for some mad reason.

I am not so sure that i can agree with you about being envious the guys in england, but i guess i have a much better idea of the weather there than you do.....lol

I lived in Vancouver for a year, so I know what you mean about the rain. 40 days and 40 nights doesn't even come close. smiley - smiley It was VERY depressing. Do you speak other languages? I am completely lacking when it comes to other languages, although I took French in school and I know a smattering of Spanish. smiley - smiley

Not really Alicat, more fool me though as i should do.There was a time when i could get by in holland and also germany.I was married to an Italian which i understand a little of,a little Afrikaanse. It is a regret of mine i must be honest,if i had three wishes one of them would be to be able to speak every language there is.I used to try but i would find in most countries that the locals would invariably say.....no no pleeze pwaktiss eengleesh....or something like that...lol and that would be the end of it,particularly younger people.I am sewriously thinking of trying to learn Zulu though.
LOL....there are some who would say that i can't even speak english properly,i have an english accent(london)that has probably been a little distorted with my various travels.
So tell me some about Canada,i would like to speak french too, such a sexy language and spanish i find very passionate.I have had a lot of fun in Spain in the past and some of itss islands.

I love Canada. We seem to be fairly free of discrimination and bigotry. Our immigration laws are fairly lax, and I think we have benefitted from this. My ancestors are from England (London) on my Dad's side and Hungary, on my Mom's. We have a country larger tha the States, but with a tenth of the population. We have mountains and glaciers and abundant wilderness areas. This, of course, is changing as new sources of oil and natural gas are discovered, and American interests increase. We are a quietly nationalistic country and exceedingly polite. We make good beer. smiley - smiley
We also have our share of shame, from over-fishing to the clubbing of baby seals (for fur, and, supposedly, culture). Our weather is varied and generally unpredictable.
Lately, it seems, we have been producing an increasing number of international recording stars. A fair number of good bands, too. We have always been influenced by the United states, and most stars have had to leave Canada to get "discovered". Most remain proud to be Canadian. smiley - smiley

How did you wind up settling in Africa? I used to dream of a life like Jane Goodall, or Dian Fossey. I love animals. smiley - smiley

Tell me more about yourself and your life there. smiley - smiley

Keep smiling, Love,

Ali*

Canada sounds very nice Ali,i have heard this too from various people.Maybe i will get to see it one day.
I kind of stumbled on Africa to be honest,i had no plans to come here ,but when i did i immediately fell in love with the place.
My life is pretty cool,an5 i try to be cool too.I guess it could be said that i am a bit of a loner these days.Probably because i have not got much time for peoples nonsense,i don't suffer fools too easily.(even though i have been known to be foolish at times....lol)I guess another reason is because i really was a party animal, however i completely reinvented myself in recent years, stopping all that and everyting that goes with it.So a lot of my social acquantances do the kinda stuff that i no longer do,like drinking and smoking etc etc .To give it all up i had to move on totally.

I know what you mean. These days, my closest friends are virtual. I know people at h2g2 better than real people in my life. It is much easier to discover the true essense of people when all you have is their words. You also avoid the stigma of past mistakes and errors of judgement. smiley - smiley what you get is what people dream for themselves.

Love,

Monkey Boy

Hello.

Well I'm finally back from my travels and almost glad to back in the old UK. US of A is OK but a little too nice for my liking (far too many people wishing you a "nice day" through gritted teeth for my liking) I thought the basketball was pretty cool. Other than that America hasn't changed much since I was there last. Big riots all over the place for the world trade organisation were pretty cool. The Police seemed to be as understanding as ever!!!!! "hello Mr peacefull protester ......Bash"

Ali....Tell me what you've been up to over the last couple of weeks.

Noname Traveller. have a bottle of blue love!! you'll love it

Oh, my love. My heart is beating a hundred miles an hour. smiley - smiley No sweeter words have I seen than Monkey Boy. I tried to e-mail you at the address you gave me, but I got the Postmaster General's office. Not very friendly people, I might add. smiley - smiley I have tried to wait out the two weeks with patience, but a part of my soul was missing. And now you're back and all is well. How I missed you, my love. Tell me all about your trip. Happy easter, too. smiley - smiley

Pasta sounds lovely, Noname. I'm afraid MB is gone for the day. He and I have been trying to spread the love vibe throughout the universe. We decided that, if you could actually see it, if it was a concrete substance, people would be more receptive. We started with bottled love, then Monkey boy thought of the little blue pills. we have been somewhat successful. smiley - smiley I cannot understand any reluctance but we've found it. smiley - smiley Would you care for a beer? smiley - smiley

i would love a beer with you thanks Ali.
I think i can understand the reluctance you may of been experiencing,it is all a question of branding and packaging i suspect.
I think that you need to find a new name for your love pills, blue denotes sadness,it could even be construed as pornographic by some and totally misunderstood. Also i would suggest that maybe another format or vehicle be used, pills are not good.Theyrelate to too many bad things like junkies and commonplace medicines i would say.
Just my humble opinion you understand.otherwise i think it is marvellous,i really do.
There you go ,serves up a nice plate of fresh spaghetti alla vongole with a nice glass of cabernet sauvignon.
Your very good health my dear

This is fabulous, Noname. You are quite the chef. smiley - smiley I see what you mean about the pills. We have made cookies and brownies too. It's a daunting task, but I think it's a worthwhile cause. Love could cure so many ills. smiley - smiley Cheers, Dear. This is wonderful. smiley - smiley

Love ,i would say ,is definately the fuel the world should be run on,unfortunately our society is largely built on corruption and greed and run by power hungry despots.Sorry to be so cynical, although i do not walk around thinking such radical things i happen to believe them.
Glad you like the pasta,i enjoy cooking, not so much al a carte but "peasant"foods (which is how i would describe my diet)lol...and me for that matter...i find it very therapeutical.today we have paella with all the goodies.
