Time to update what was a very concise statement:
Always having been a radio listener, starting in the mid-forties as a devotee of Children's Hour, I have been recording selected BBC Radio productions since about 1955. Unfortunately, none of the reel-to-reel recordings still exist, although I did manage to get hold of a copy of one of them earlier this year, 2004: Encounter in the Balkan Express with Peter Ustinov as the lead character.
It was with the introduction of cassettes about 1972 that this activity became much easier, and since then I have recorded many plays, features, a variety of comedy shows, and general ephemera. But again unfortunately, the demands of work and life in general ensured that there were, occasionally, long periods when I made no recordings at all. Hence my pleasure at finding BBC7 earlier this year. I am now much freer to devote hours to searching for, listening to, and recording radio plays - and to talking about them with anyone who wishes to write.
I also found a recordings-sharing circle on the internet, and am now a very active member. My archive is now considerable, and I hope through this BBC facility, to find others who share my interest.
I live in Liverpool, but have previously lived in Yorkshire, Manchester and Glasgow though my roots are in south-west Scotland which is where I spend much time on family history research and just feeling free.
Other varied interests but I shall leave mention of them until later.
