kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

It's been ages since you've been here, but on the off chance you decide to pop in...

How did you find a good hang gliding school? Not sure which bit of the country you are in now, but if you happen to be in the home counties, can you recommend anywhere? I think my hubby would love hang gliding (he used to do gliding at uni long ago) and would like to get him some taster lessons next year but having trouble finding somewhere that actually teaches, our local club website says they don't take novices.

Have emailed them too, but thought it worth asking you anyhow.

Thanks for telling me, will find a way to ask him elsewhere in cyberspace. smiley - cheers

Sorry to butt in, butt the thread title reminded me of the movie I watched last night, 'The Bucket List' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0825232/ , in which two terminally ill cancer patients (Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman) skydive.

Of the many truisms expressed in the film, the one that had me exchanging knowing looks with my girlfriend was the advice given to (let's say) the more mature person, "Never trust a fart!"

Just thought I'd share that with you.

Oh, I thought I had replied to this. At least I wrote the best part of an answer and then probably accidentally navigated away...

About a month after this I had baby #2 and things went a bit crazy for a while, then when they settled down on that front he was sent to work overseas for over a year and I haven't come back to it yet.

I didn't get very far with finding anywhere for him to try it then but it is still in the back of my mind as somethign to sort at at some point when I have time. Actually, as he has a summer birthday this might be something I can arrange for that, so thanks for the reminder smiley - smiley

I seem to recall I did reply to this by some other means, but if I may, I really must recommend para- over hang-gliding. Cheaper kit, easier to learn, my ignorant paraglider's perception is that it's safer, it's certainly much, much easier to transport and carry the gear.

Suffice to say that most days I can fly I'm flying with another paraglider or two... or twenty, whereas days I've flown this year when there's been a hangy in the air I could count on... well, my nose.

Admittedly there are days they can fly when we can't... but not that many. Paragliding is the future.

You did, on Ben's blog I think.

Yes, I got the impression you were rather more in favour of para- rather than hang gliding then too, was a very helpful response thanks.

Now, if you could just pop back and remind me again in about April, that would be perfect smiley - biggrin

Because I can't remember what I posted 5 minutes ago, let alone months ago so am impressed you remembered!

I have now inserted a note in my (new, first ever) smart phone to remind me to investigate this at the weekend. Thanks smiley - smiley

Well yesterday I climbed this: http://www.stridingedge.net/wainwright%20fells/m-z/Pavey%20Ark.htm

... carrying a paraglider, and flew off the top.

Spring has sprung, thermals are booming, lift is everywhere. It's time.

You mean last night you mounted a camera to the ceiling of your spare room, sat on the blue carpet, wiggled your arms about and then CGId in a seat, some strings and bit of ground on loop below you?

That's what it looked like to me!smiley - tongueout
