The 'Dumb Bomb' has a dumb name, imho. It may serve a purpose for some but I think - and have suggested several times - that the name be changed to something less insulting. Like Thread Bomb. Or even better - Thread Bomb Alert - so it is clear that they are alerting others to a 'bomb' having been set off on a particular thread.
Think about it. Since the whole of h2g2 (thankfully) doesn't revolve around so-called 'Della Wars', anyone seeing 'Dumb Bomb' posted about something they said would not know the history and would rightly feel insulted.
The people wanting to maintain the Dumb Bomb name are only doing so to single out Della. Which should not be the case for something that is hoped to be incorporated into day-to-day h2g2 use.
Don't get me wrong. I am not backing up Della. I am simply stating that the name of this new 'tool' is not ever going to work as it stands and that it in fact helps Della back up her own unfair claims that she is being picked on unfairly.
Hoo, Blathers . . . cut a bit of slack here. Why not call it Thread Bomb Alert and keep the entry link as it stands. You'd lose nothing except an extra (somewhat adolescent) dig at Della. And I think you would also gain more support from the community for this 'tool' of yours. You never know, it might even get into the House Rules if you do it right.
Please think about it - okay?

six7s, if you bothered actually reading that thread, a thread where I had never seen you make any contribution) you'd know that Trillians Child was 'insulted' by someone called rhynch, an Australian, not me!
As for the NZ thread it died, threads do, nothing to do with me.
I'd say get a life, but you'd scream and rant, and you're in the company of your fellow believers here, so I'll leave you to it.

az, I'm with you on this one. I think Thread Bomb Alert is *much* clearer. Having seen cl zoomer's response to being Dumb Bombed by Blatherskite (and see how the grammar/syntax doesn't work for the DB phrase), I can forsee problems for it's use (there is an exchange about this on the DB page for those that haven't seen it).
I also agree that Thread Bomb Alert is much more likely to gain acceptance and use within the wider community.
six7s - I'll reply to your post with a precis when I've got the energy

Adds a vote for "Thread Bomb Alert" - clarity is all we can hope for here, and it is a much clearer turn of phrase.

I also think it should be posted with the thingy-whatsit, for example:
Thread Bomb Alert A3771443
kea just posted one on another thread (without the number) and it caused some confusion as someone didn't know what it meant and posted - Thread Bomb Alert? - and then someone else thought they were saying *their* last post was a thread bomb. Phew.

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't post the Dumb Bomb page link because I thought it would confuse things given the name change, and I didn't want to have to exlpain that in the thread.
I definitely think the link is important though, which brings us to a revision of the DB page, or a new page. Should we be discussing this on the DB page?

Della, if YOU bothered to read THIS thread, you might realise that you are the 1st on this thread to mention Trillian's Child, a name I imagine few would confuse with Wand'rin Star
If you care to click on this link F19585?thread=100569&skip=9160&show=20 you will see that post 9179 was by me and post 9180 was by you. Admittedly, it was back in Oct 2004 but then some of us are content to simply read the more serious threads without succumbing to an urge to post inane chatter and/or bookmark symbols ad nauseum
Furthermore, if you revisit posts 12 and 13 of this thread, you will be reminded that I wrote to you that " I would appreciate it if you were to unsubscribe - or at least desist from posting" to which you replied "I don't want to bother or harass you, so I'm off - have a nice time!"
Do I take it that you now DO want to bother/harass me?

'Thread Bomb Alert' (with a link to the A-page) gets my vote too, although I think the term 'Flame Retard' has a certain ring to it

I have to say that the constant bookmarking is somewhat tedious - not to mention unnecessary since the new 'x new posts' thing was incorporated onto our PS's. You only need to click on 'x new posts' to get to the last page you have read to. Surely it isn't too much work to simply scroll down one page to where you last left off? Apple/Della is the only researcher I know of who continues to bookmark.

Hey Ho Hoo,
Reading your post on the 'Reporters get it wrong and people die!' thread http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/FFM135418?thread=644548&skip=0&show=20#p7058311 reminded me of the following that did the rounds a couple of years ago
You may well have seen before - but what the hey...

TALIBAN IN SCOTLAND
---------------------------
As we all know, the Taliban considers it a sin for a man to see a naked woman who is not his wife.
So, next Saturday at 2:00 PM all Scots women are asked to walk out of their house completely naked to help weed out any neighbourhood terrorists. Circling your block for one hour is recommended for this anti-terrorist effort.
All men are to position themselves in lawn chairs in front of their house to prove they are not Taliban, demonstrate that they think it's okay to see nude women other than their wife and to show support for all Scots women.
And since the Taliban also does not approve of alcohol, a cold six-pack at your side is further proof of your anti-Taliban sentiment.
The Scottish Parliament appreciates your efforts to root out terrorists and applauds your participation in this anti-terrorist activity.
God bless Scotland!
IT IS YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY TO PASS THIS ON!
WOMEN FROM GOVAN, CRAIGMILLAR AND TORRY ARE ASKED NOT TO PARTICIPATE!!!
Jack McConnell MSP
First Minister
