From a brief scan of the backlog:
1. You seem to be doing fine. He looks weak, patronising and incoherent. You look reasonably, straightforward and rational. i.e. you win.
2. He lacks the crucial element of entertainment - he's boring.
3. Right now, this week, I think I can do without any arguments involving men in frocks etc.

Well, okay then.
Noggin also tells me I'm doing fine. But this Opus guy is just so slimy and slippery!
I almost never ask for back-up. I just thought I could use some in this particular debate. But I understand if you aren't interested.
Anyhoodle . . .

I am *so* not going to get involved with a fight with Christians, but let me offer you my support Az.
I had a similar toxic esperience with someone who was both slippery and patronising, (who would always slip in his Masters, or was it his Doctorate, I cannot remember). In the end I just ignored him completely.
Good luck, girl.

Oh, I know it's not worth it in the end, Ben.
As you know, I also had a bit of 'toxxic shock' last year, when I was still young green and leafy here on hootoo. I've learned not to take this person to heart and it helps somewhat that I read somewhere that he thinks I am 'uninteresting'.
And in the case of the Opus guy, what is the point in debating with someone who already knows all the answers and is not going to be swayed at all by what anyone says?
If I had more energy I might continue trying to give him a run for his money. But I've got enough to think about with my dying cat and other personal concerns. I do think I am going to take that break from hootoo that I mentioned to you elsewhere.

You'll be missed, hon. I find that I never take long breaks, but that after the longest (the month I was in Australia) it would have been surprisingly easy not to come back. On the other hand, I have so many RL friends now that I met on Hootoo, and whose friendship I value a lot, that I keep on coming back anyway.
Good thoughts to your cat. I have been there, and it is awful.

Don't cry Fathom!
After all, it will only mean that I am actually enjoying RL more than here, and that can't be a bad thing.
Anyhow, doubt I'll totally stay away. At least not for long.
I don't even remember the last time I had summer hols.

Darn. How do you get Greek letters in text (or user names for that matter--I know I saw someone with a user name in Greek once)?
That was supposed to be psi-phi. Stupid pun from a book by Niven, Pournelle, and a third person I can't remember. Sephen Barnes?

Well, now it looks like I'm going to *have* to go away so as not to disappoint you all.
Probably not cold turkey though. I'll still have the Photo Gallery and Lua threads to update and I'll probably also be checking personal messages from time to time.
Can't get rid of me that easily!
Um, what thread is this anyhow?

Well! If you replied to them once in a while it would be nice!
We appear to have a troll on the FFFF thread. Best not to respond I think. It's not us he's trolling anyway.
What exactly is this thread? How did I get here? Is it a meeting place for knee-jerk conservative idiots? Where are they all?

No--it's a tread to discuss the presence/absence of "knee-jerk conservative idiots" in the Dominion of New Zealand. (It is still a Dominion, isn't it?)
Clearly, you got here on an infinite improbability drive--such a thread existing, and existing on this page and you reading it are so improbable they just HAD to happen.

Anyone still subscribed to this thread?
I do hope so because there's one particular idiot from NZ (a 'dominion' from 1907 to 1947 by the way) that is ruining thread after thread here on hootoo and I have a hunch that some of you might be able to help get rid of her...

Kiaora six7s Long time eh?

Let me know if you want a precis.
And this (which evolved out of the above thread): A3771443
There is certainly way less conflict in places like The Forum, as a consequence of that thread. It's interesting to see how others are dealing with Della in the absence of the 'Dirty Angels' (Hoo, blicky, Ferrettbadger, Blatherskite etc).

Hi Hoo,
I mean Della
Details:
I know you know about her rantings in many of the various 'Forum' threads where she might not be breaking any 'House Rules', but her conduct is well out of order and I find her mere presence lowers the tone
Other areas...
post 10,679: F19585?thread=100569&skip=10660&show=20
Wandrin' Star U96784 unsubscribes from the thread she and others resurrected from pre-Rupert days and then, according to her Personal Space, says goodbye to h2g2 as well as she no longer has any reason to stay
Again, nothing that breaks the house rules but the site as a whole will become dull and boring if the Wandrin' Stars are replaced by Aimless Fools
F72190?thread=178765&latest=1
A thread that I started (called 'Kia Ora/G'day') as a light-hearted yet often (ok, occasionally) interesting thread discussing issues pertinent to 'antipodeans' and for quite a while it thrived BUT shortly after Clan Della caused so much trouble with the Blicky impersonation fiasco, the thread died... I suspect because, like me, none of the other regulars wanted to 'chat' with anyone so despicable
So, although she hasn't done anything truly yikes-able, she is an embarrasment and I would dearly like to find a way to persuade her to desist from posting
I expressed my concerns to ~jwf~ F59446?thread=177649&skip=0&show=20 who remarked that "... there were always threads that got taken over by trouble makers and they usually got an earful from the faithful, and a boot from the Italics." and, to me, you and the others on this thread count as 'the faithful' - hence my appeal for support

Kia ora kea! Indeed, long time, far too long... my how time flies...
Sorry that I overlooked your post, RL has a habit of distracting me quite a bit lately...
Anyhoo, thanks for the links
Given that there are >500 posts, a precis would be appreciated but I will have a quick skim in the meantime
Although there may be "less conflict in places like The Forum, as a consequence of that thread" the root cause of the problem still exists
The 'Dumb Bomb' is brilliant - if I'd known about this earlier I might not have got so damn flustered

" I have a hunch that some of you might be able to help get rid of her..."
Sorry, six7s, but if there's one thing that has become clear in recent times it is that Della is very much a special case, and that nothing she does will get her even put on pre-moderation, much less removed from the site entirely. I mean, my goodness, if you actually "seriously" threaten to have another user of the site KILLED, and no sanction follows, it's pretty clear you have carte blanche, wouldn't you say?
Della has a rather clear case of victim mentality, much like quite few Christians, I might add. She positively thrives on the persecution she sees in any posts here that even mildly disagree with her. If she doesn't get her fix of abuse, she'll say something to provoke it, lying if necessary. The "Dumb Bomb" has been an attempt to save the time of those who normally respond to her, to deprive her of her fix, and to stop threads in which she is trolling from devolving into "Della Wars".
I suggest that if she is bothering you, or anyone else, you simply reply to her posting with the words "Dumb Bomb", and a link to the Dumb Bomb explanatory entry. She has nowhere to go from there. She cannot be persuaded to leave, and the Italics demonstrably will not take ANY action against her regardless of anything she does or any volume of complaints on or offsite about her, so Dumb Bombs are, as I see it, the best and only recourse you have.
Sorry.

Hoo, thank you! The 'Dumb Bomb' might not blow her off the site, but surely even she will understand why they will be going off!
If a link to A3771443 was included on the front page and/or in ACE greetings to newbies, h2g2 might not lose too many more valued Researchers
