So if I want to make a Nintendo fan club all I have to do is maker a guide entry in my area called "The Nintendo Fan Club".

Yup. That's about right.

If you can, learn to use the GuideML coding system to create your group. You can find out how here: A187229 This will help you put togetehr a good looking page for your group becuase rather than just being plian text GuideML will allow you to format the page into paragraphs, headings etc and insert pictures (known as 'blobs') from the h2g2 picture archive C809 .

Rule 1)

Publicity is good.

Advertise your new group in your name which you can edit under preferences - watch out for the upper limit of letters though.
"Any NES Fans? Go to Axxxxx" - something like that.

Also put an ad in the thepost saying your putting this group together and ask for interested parties to come and join. Once the guide entry is complete give a link to who will put it amongst the groups and socities pages.

Another trick is to advertise you new group in askh2g2. That page has a high turnover however, so your forum may go over the page fairly swiftly but seeing as a lot of the community gather there, an ad however briefly visable, should garner some attention.

Okay - I've added an entry called the nintendo fan club (but haven't had time to add anything userful to it yet) but how do I change my name?

There should be a button visible in whatever skin you view h2g2 in (I use Classic Goo ) called "preferences" - it is where you originally chaged your name from your designated Researcher number to JozCoz and you can edit your name to advertise your group there.
