Greetings from the Springy Goddess!
I first learned of the Guide through the original BBC radio broadcasts, which aired in Canada in 1982. At that time I was in the typing pool at a commodity trading firm (scratch that; I *was* the typing pool, all one of Me) and also trying to run a kung fu school on the side. And taking judo. And teaching yoga. (Oh, and did I mention that weekend rock band?)
In the context of that time-obliterating chaos (hallo, Eris! Let's do tea sometime, shall we?) the plight of Arthur Dent appealed to Me at a visceral level.
25 years later, the words "Don't Panic" still comfort Me.
And My eight cats keep My household safe from the likes of Frankie and Benjy, just in case.
