Kimcheedog's Introduction
Dear h2g2,
Having previously been a member of h2g2 (and an occasional contributor) back around 2001, and having been too busy to return for the past few years, I now find myself at the ripe old age of 72 with a new urge to move some stuff off my hard drive and share it with others. For one thing, I've been compiling some additions and corrections to the sarcastic "Useful Latin Phrases" collection that's now posted at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A218882#footnote1" >http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A218882#footnote1. For another, I've written a bunch of articles on food -- including tidbits about its history and some original recipes -- that I thought some people might enjoy and maybe use. Plus I've written a number of articles (NOT "blogs")on subjects ranging from How to Write a Haiku (tongue-in-cheek)to Native American Place Names to How Corporate Meetings Work (also tongue-in-cheek).
As for personal background --if you want it-- I'm a professional freelance writer with a bachelor's degree in English lit and an M.A. degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard. Plus about 35 years' experience writing for corporations, including 6 years as chief writer/editor for an IBM Corporation Web site about "emerging technologies." This is starting to sound like a resume -- I'm no longer interested in writing about technology, but would like to have some fun instead.
I consider the English language to be a lot of fun. The things I contributed to h2g2 years ago had to do with obsolete English words. Can't remember what the entry titles were, nor do I remember my h2g2 username from that era, so I've no idea whether or not they still exist.
In any case, I'll now go back to my notes about Latin, and trying to figure out how to create an h2g2 footnote. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with your XML markup language, so some of the material I'd like to send along would suffer a bit in plain text.
Let me know if any of the above sounds interesting...I'm not sure what you want to see. I'm assuming that you want informative material, not (for example) humorous pieces per se. I'll do some more browsing to get a better sense of what you already have.
Best regards,
Kimcheedog
