Multivac
Multivac was Isaac Asimov's vision of the future of computing, a supercomputer with terminals in every home, and from what I remember it was available on portable stations too. Not quite the Internet, and certainly not the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but a perceptive vision none the less. In one story its descendants continued working on a problem posed by a small girl, until after the end of the universe there was only the computer, and it finally solved the question. The response to the question was "Let there be light" Can anybody tell me what the question was? (It was not "What is the answer to life, the universe and everything?")
So that's my handle. Best I could do in a few moments while worrying about the phone bill. (Have I been on line THAT long?)
:-)

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
