paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant

Hi, Lanzababy.

Last night I installed Google Chrome as my default browser. I created an account at Trello. However, when I tried to get into the Create Board, this is the message I got:

"Board not found. This page may be private. If someone gave you this link, they may need to invite you to one of their boards or organizations."

Trello lies! I linked to Trello from your invitation on June 15. Is there any way around Trello's firewall?

It's not Trello's fault paulh - your invitation expired. It was valid for four weeks, and that time has long since passed.

Would you like me to re-issue a new invitation to you? Do you have some area that you'd like to volunteer active support in? Do let me know.

The Trello board is not intended for participants in the challenges, it is an area for people who are volunteering time to both plan and support the efforts of others. ie write and host new challenges, make images for the Front Page, help with collating contributions, making pages in GuideML etc.

eg BlueBottle is reading a lot of the Flea Market Entries, and commenting on likely Entries that could be used for either or both of the current Entry challenges.

I'd be extremely pleased if you'd be able to lend a hand with some of this work - there is plenty of scope for this project.

best wishes

Lanzababy

Sorry, Lanzababy, but I'm getting more confused by the minute [not hard for me, but still...]. Your original invitation was to join the "Create" Board. I have no idea what the duties of Board members are, but I figured that you had some idea that I would fit in. perhaps thinking of "Create" challenges for upcoming months. Am I still on the wrong track? Am I getting at all warm?

You know, I thought that you might be! There is a difference between people who take part in the challenges as an ordinary member (eg rescue a Flea Market Entry - or Write a Book Review and so on) and the actual volunteers who help by planning and writing the challenge pages, or hosting the events, or making the illustrations for the top of the Front page of Pliny.

A *volunteer badge*, and being an actual volunteer requires you to offer three hours or so time, to support Create itself - rather than just taking part in the challenges. These are the official volunteers who have been invited to do the offsite planning over on Trello. These badges have not been issued yet, they are totally new.

The contributors, get one of the *participant badges* ( the pretty ones, with the month written inside them) Each time you take part, you are allowed to display one on your personal space.

I hope this explains the situation a little bit for you. There is no need to sign up for Trello in order to take part in any of our challenges.

Okay, I think I'm starting to understand. The "participant badges" are the ones that I've been getting so far. A lot of it is fun. I'm probably more useful writing anyway, as I'm not much of a manager.

Thanks for taking the time to differentiate. I was just asked to agree to some sort of volunteer code of ethics. I thought that meant I was supposed to be doing something extra....

I was invited to join the Create board too. I didn't because we don't have Google Chrome on our computer.

I suppose my position is like paulh's. I'm happy to participate in challenges and even come up with ideas. (I'd like to see more fiction and poetry on h2g2, and could think up some challenge ideas.)

Whether I have the skills to plan and organise challenges is another matter.
