Telepathy
Posted Oct 4, 2003
In my teens and early twenties I had a few strange experiences which I could only explain as either extremely complex co-incidences or telepathy. I'd almost forgotton how it felt to share, on a fairly random basis, someone elses thoughts and emotions. I was surprised to find very little comment about this phenomenom in the Guide.

Name
Posted May 30, 2001
I've been wondering about my h2g2 name. The Mixer. What is that? What does it mean to the rest of you? I'd really like one of those long clever names, full of literary references but I'm not very good at literature. I like to read, and I tend to 'live' what I read when I'm reading it but when I've finished, I don't remember enough in the way of detail to be able to quote great chunks of it.
So my name, should I pretend it has something to do with alcaholic drinks like 'and tonic' or 'and Coke' or tell the boring truth, that it is from my Ham radio call-sign, G4MIX, which in turn was chosen as the nearest available to my abbreviated real name , Mick.
Perhaps I'll add the name of my literary hero, Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson. Perhaps Corporal Nobby Nobbs is more my style? I like the name Windle Poons and though he was deaf and wheelchair bound for many years he did manage to live to 130 and then had a bit of fun as a zombie. Yes that's it, I'm no wizard but I'll just add Windle Poons to my name!!!!

Harvest
Posted Jul 11, 2000
I'm a bit ambivalent about harvest. I should dread the thought of working 14 hours a day, hate the excruciating boredom of driving up and down, up and down and curse the possibility of mechanical breakdown that will have me getting hot and dirty. Yet, somehow I can't help getting caught up in the excitement of it all. It's the culmination of our years work. It can be ruined by the weather. A field that has looked terrific all year, can be a bitter disappointment, another may exceed your wildest expectations. At the end, though, you feel as though you've wiped the slate clean, ready for a better effort next season.

Senior moments
Posted Jun 16, 2000
As the years pass inexorably by, I find that those small lapses of concentration become more frequent and more embarrassing. My latest on-going problem is with web-site suffixes. I'm always confusing .com with .co.uk and sites that should be .org turn out to be .net. The last straw was when I was telling everyone about my first try at my own site, I got MY suffix wrong. So my web-site is:- www.qsl.net/g4mix. What a plonker!!!!

Who needs a website?
Posted Jun 9, 2000
I always said I wouldn't do it. I said it's just telling other people what a boring life you lead. I said it's attention seeking on a world-wide scale. But, I have. I found this ham radio site with lots of information about HTML and then Keeza gave me a couple of hints and finally my son said," You don't need to learn HTML, just use 'Publisher' or some-such". So I did. And I added some pictures, and an E-mail link and, eventually a counter. I had to learn a bit of code for that. Then I thought," I don't really want everyone to see what I've done" SO-O-O, just have a quick peek at [Broken link removed by Moderator]. I suppose even if someone looks and just sadly shakes their head, I've had their attention for one little moment.
