Back to Work

Here we go then. After 8 weeks of freedom, limited only by minor mobility problems, I'm back on the old treadmill. It could have been worse, at least I've been riding in the air conditioned, sound proofed, air sprung seated comfort of the old John Deere. I've caught up with all my mates on ham radio, listened to a couple of plays on the BBC,Oh and I've planted about 25 hectares of potatoes.

Sick Pay

I've been incapacitated with an injured leg for a few weeks. I've had time to think, time to relax, time to do what I want to do. The only ripples that have disturbed this tranquility have been caused by insurance claim forms. Do they deliberately make it almost impossible to complete these abominations without braving their 'HELP' line? Do they expect us to keep records of every minor event in our sad little lives? Then we're expected to drag their nasty little forms round to the employer and the doctor for their input. In the end, what for? So that they can stick their tongues out, waggle their fingers at us and say 'No way will we pay.'

Skills

I heard a report earlier in the week about how good people are at their work. It seems that if you think you are good at what you do you are probably not but conversely, if you think you are not particularly skilful you probably are. The problem I have with this is, that once you have read this report, you may be influenced to think the opposite of what you thought before you read the report and suddenly become more (or less) good at what you do!

Weekend

The variable rate of flow of time becomes really noticeable at weekends. This week I seem to have made good progress with several jobs at work and time has flowed fairly steadily, slowing down appreciably during Friday morning. This morning I planned to do a couple of minor household chores then settle down to making a C.D. and video cabinet. The chores somehow lasted into mid-afternoon and time had accelerated to such an extent that the cabinet is still unstarted and I'm writng this halfway through tomorrow morning!
