I predict you'll fit right in. Proper sense of humor. I, on the other hand, have my moments of wit but they come in the midst of interaction, not as a spur to it.

My first strategy at carving out a sense of belonging was to befriend other "new this week" folk, but I get the feeling that either a) they watch for a long time before plunging (unlike yours truly) or b) they haven't been back. How's being here going for you?

It's pretty good. I've taken a lot of stuff that I've written and never showed to anybody and used it here.
I've gotten good remarks besides one person trying to convince me that I should add a disclaimer on "Rainbow of Sound" saying that my comparison of light and sound is a metaphor and is not implying that if sounds were visible they would be ordered do, re, mi, fa, so, la, si, do. I'm not exactly sure that would fit in very well.
Anyway, its fun to be able to post rants, I don't think there are many places were you can do things like that. Thank Zarquan for Douglas Adams.

Well, I'll just go and see if I can check out what you're doing with (saying about) light and sound, metaphorical or not. smiley - smiley

I've been staying close to the front page so far, which has had a few rough moments but that's how I always seem to find my way in to things, groups, conversations ... bumbling at first but hopefully without major faux paux that haunt forevermore. smiley - erm

Will start digging deeper this week, especially in the Communication area, but am glad of the lead/tip/hint of what you're up to...if you don't mind that is where I'll start, and see if/what/how to rile things up - productively, mind you. I'm not a spoiler; I do think there's an effect from everything we put out there, even if the ripples are too tiny or distant to detect.

smiley - run

You know, I did go peek, and I see you're in a bit of an argument with the reviewers. I thought about wading in, there, but wasn't sure if I could contribute anything helpful, so let it be.

I've continued thinking about it, though. What is your goal for writing in the alternative writing space? I think that's important, because if you were seeking acceptance (or even an embrace), then no wonder the feedback was such a surprise!

At this point, it seems the ball is in your court. I can imagine a range of options, including continuing to argue, giving up entirely, trying to work with the feedback, moving on to something else....

I usually give in at the end.

There is a Gene Wilder interview about Young Frankenstein in which he says that he showed a script to Mel Brooks and Brooks argued about it fervently. At the end of the argument Brooks said that Wilder can keep the part, he just wanted to see if Wilder cared about it enough to argue.

Once, someone asked me to change something and I asked them if they actually, really, truly cared about it and they said yes. So I changed it.

I wanted to see if the Rainbow color/sound was actually important enough to whoever it was, so I will change it. I haven't thought how. I think, at the the end of the day, in the fullness of time, at the appropriate juncture, its better to give in entirely. That will be my new strategy!
