Well, since Mok was the first person to respond to anything I've done on h2g2 since signing up a few days ago, I'll be the first to say something here.
Any ideas what I should say?

Perhaps you should tell him what the socket in the wall is for...or maybe his/her computer is like mine...and luv's to crash

Hi Mote,
Mok 105273 Posted Feb 6, 2000
Yes I know quite well what the plug in the wall is for, and I have the phone bills to prove it! I hope that the computer-using public of the British Isles are planning to revolt against the telephone system here- I used the Net every day for a year in Canada and what did it cost? Not a penny.
Then again, a revolution in the UK is unlikely at best- they still have TV licensing here (which in essence is paying for air) and there has been scant resistance to going metric- though the pound seems to be surviving the onslaught of the Euro-buck.
Just strikes me as absurd that England pays for something that is free everywhere else. My rant for the day.

You know, I read that as Mole (not Mote) at first.
Are you implying that there's something wrong with going metric, or am I misinterpreting?
Hi Mote,
Mok 105273 Posted Feb 7, 2000
Hello again Mote- ultimately, I don't give two thirds of a rat's ass how the world measures anything- abstract, arbitrary, and therefore what Vonnegut referred to as a granfalloon- a meaningless symbol established by an insignificant organisation... and this planet should really be working on the next headspace, to use old terminologies.
The time has come for us to think differently, and it is the golden opportunity- at no time for a century has the general public been so willing to examine their own thought processes and reasoning, to really consider their role in the world. The vote is precious now, because we have never seen a time when so many who had the right to one might actually use it.
Hi Mote,
aPerson, An Angelastic (and alliterative) Acronymaniac Posted Feb 9, 2000
Think differently indeed!
I'm not Mote, I'm aPerson. But anyway, it doesn't bother me how long the measurements are or what they're called, but I do think it's ridiculous and old-fashioned to have a system where things aren't even divided decimally. There are more important things to calculate from measurements without having to divide/multiply by 12 or 5820 (did I get that right? I vaguely remember someone telling me there's 5820 feet in a mile, but maybe it was 5280. Well, at least I can remember how many metres are in a kilometre )
Hi Mote,
Universal Mote Posted Feb 12, 2000
I'm still reeling...How do you measure two/thirds of a rat's ass? Perhaps a small centimeter stick...and chew off the end? (Or a Yardstick in the USA sewer system)...I think that a suitable guide entry could be developed, on the proper techniques of the furry little critters posterior girth.
Be Well...

LOL... I wonder if there's a town called Ratsworth or something which could be given the meaning of 'a unit equal to the size of two thirds of a rat's arse' for The Even Deeper Meaning of Liff.

Hello again!
Two thirds of a rats ass IS in fact divisible by 10!
A-ha! perhaps we have in fact discovered a universal measurement system... as for the metrification of the UK, I'm quite accustomed to metric measurement- I'm Canadian, and we switched to metric back in the eighties...what gets me about the changing measurement systems is the response (or lack thereof) of the general public...perhaps a referendum on the subject might have been more appropriate- then the real desires of the British people might have been served. Of course there are unscrupulous rotters out there who will take advantage of the change to turn an unscrupulous buck- anyone who has seen the price they are now paying per liter for petrol is sure to agree that there's been a price hike along with the change of measurement systems. They did it in Canada too, all those years ago, and for a brief span of time it became expedient to bolt across the border to the States to fill up.

Tell me about it...(No not two thirds of a rat's ass)... I think the price for petrol/Litre is a subtle plot by those whore-mongering energy companies to crush the life of "lesser mortals".
(Where I'm from it's gasoline: dollar/gallon).
I came accross an interesting site the other day which might be of interest. It was blacklight.com or some such.(Sorry...don't know the weblink).
Perhaps cold fusion may be closer to reality than we first thought. (If those whore-mongering...ect...). Would'nt it be great to "fill up" every couple of months with almost free "energy".

I think I read something somewhere about how it's quite common for companies to reduce the amount of product in each packet, but keep the packet size and the price the same - not breaking any laws or anything, because it does mention how many grams or whatever there are on the package, but they hope nobody will notice.
Of course, I'm sure that's nothing new to you... but it was also mentioned that the only product with which this tactic didn't work was tampons. People kep buying other stuff when there's less in the pack, but as soon as some company did that with tampons they lost most of their customers. Mind you, on a tampon pack the number is much more visible than on, say, instant coffee.

Due to a time shift dimensional barrier osccilation, Universal Mote will be out of contact...(Probably thinking about tampons, rat's posterior's, and the price of fuel on planet moose-k-teer.)...Yes Mok...I read your h2g2 site.
Also aPerson...keep a kiwi in your grasp, and your feet on a path in ANY direction...
