Poss's Home Page
My name is Brian Stukins. Not a very common name but one of my interests is genealogy and local history. There were quite a few of us in the Cambridgeshire villages of Coveney, Haddenham, and Longstanton in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries but my branch moved to Lancashire to work in the satanic mills of Ramsbottom.
My wife started calling me "Poss" or "Possum" as a term of endearment (?) in our courting days, possibly after the the cuddly creatures who used to prowl over her roof at night when she spent a spell in Queensland, Australia. At one time I took pleasure in the supposition that it was the renowned sexual prowess of the creatures that led her to choose the name but at 60 I can't keep up my illusions.
We live in Inverness (Scotland) which is also more properly known as Dystopia. It has suffered from the attentions of the burghers succeeded by the Highland Council and by the elders of the Free Church - a disputatious bunch of people whose interminable disputes and excommunications have led to a steady break-up of the church into smaller and smaller fragments.
