The first tv debate in the US was in 1960. Nixon and Kennedy.

And it was a mistake, really - Kennedy was good-looking, and Nixon looked awful on tv. So he lost - but just barely.

Actually, Nixon lost because Kennedy's dad and Chicago's mayor stole the election. (Irish power.)

Nixon doesn't get credit for it, but he could have raised a stink, and didn't.

Now, if Nixon had won, he would probably not have made that big a mess. And there would have been no assassination - and no Watergate, either.
