We don't do cassocks in the Baptist church - we do choir robes. But you've about nailed it. smiley - winkeye

Actually, the reason my sister's already bespoke a piano from a fella - they'll deliver it in about a month, or whenever the snow melts and it can be moved - is because she wants a backup piano player...smiley - laugh

My other nephew brought furniture last night about 10 pm. Now we've got a sofa and chair for people to sit on. The living room looks very civilised. smiley - rofl

smiley - rofl Sister has a piano. But she bespoke one somebody has at a farmhouse, or some such, for me. I've been a piano player all my life, but all I have now is an electronic thingy. So she wants me to practice again. smiley - winkeye

We probably should have a party - but more likely, they'll just all end up here when the weather's better.

It's supposed to get up to 35F tomorrow - but it's also supposed to snow. smiley - rofl

I've played both kinds of pianos. smiley - rofl This one will be a spinet - house piano.

I've even played pump organs, etc.

When I was a kid, everybody had some kind of old piano - especially at farmhouses in the hills. My great-great-uncle Hughesy used to bang out ragtime music on any old piano around, a powerfully built barrel of a man in bib overalls. smiley - laugh

It weren't posh. smiley - winkeye

Our piano lessons came from gifted, but unknown, people. The most we paid for them was about 2 dollars an hour. smiley - rofl Miss Lindquist (not her real name, though it was Swedish) did it for love, mostly.

Doesn't matter, we played it all - classical, hymns, pop, folk, old-timey country, etc.

Of course, my youngest sister has a university degree in it, but music's just a natural part of the landscape.

Oh, yeah. I learned to read music about the same time I learned to read. I guess my mom taught me. smiley - laugh

See, she wanted to have a piano. Always did. But HER mom thought pianos were kind of disreputable. (You have to be from Mississippi to understand that, I think.) Anyway, as soon as my folks got their new house when I was six, she bought a piano and said, 'Okay, want to learn?' and taught me what she knew.

BUT, on the other side of the family, there was lots of musical talent - my aunt, my great-great-uncle Hughsey, etc. So my mom got her wish: the piano was almost never quiet. smiley - rofl

Eventually, my maternal grandmother heard us play at a recital. And decided it was respectable and all...smiley - whistle

smiley - rofl My dad loved to listen and bellow along, but he couldn't play anything. We kids felt bad.

One time, we bought him a harmonica and a set of taped instructions. He messed around with it for half an hour, said, 'Hey! You have to PRACTICE this thing!' and quit. smiley - rofl

Another time, my mom bought him a 'juice harp'. No go, he couldn't get the hang of it. Of course, she could - and she and her sister played in a harmonica band at school.

That was a tiny school - there were NINE people in my mom's graduating class.

smiley - winkeyebet you can't put music to my song (in my P/S)

My Nonsense song.

Fish swim the mountains
Camels walk the sky
Pigs climb up custard tree's
this I wonder why ?

sing a song of nonsense
never mind the verse

sing a song of nonsense
just smell those lovely words

Tree's play chess with Pigeons
while dominoes make mud pies
some Ants will play the tuba
this I wonder why?

chorus!

A turnips made a great big dam
an ocean learns to fly
Caterpillars can drive a bus
this I wonder why?

chorus!

I don't know why I'm singing this
some chimneys start to cry
I'm on my way to a loonie bin
this I wonder why?

chorus!
