Welcome to H2G2, the earth edition of the Guide!
Thanx for you invitation to help us with any practical small engineering problems. Some of us may need that some day.
In return, if you need any advise or help using any feature of this lovely site, everybody will be most helpful, but especially the ACES (who can be found at http://www.h2g2.com/A214796 ) have volunteered to always be available. Please feel free to barge in with any question, and we'll do the best we can.
Enjoy your visits to H2G2. I'm sure we'll enjoy your participation at least as much as yourself

Yes, welcome! I'm sorry to tag along on Skeleton's tail (not that he actually has a tail. Last time I checked it was a pelvic bone) but I really do like to welcome people, even if I'm second place. And if you ever have a problem that the ACE's can't help you with, there's Peta our community editor, and Bruce, our GuideML Guru. Between the two of them they know almost everything

Let's make it a threesome... Yes, I too am an ACE, even if I refuse to conform to having ACE trail my name like a dog without a home (LOL!!)... Welcome!

Hi and welco... oh, three others have already done this. If we're not careful we'll scare people away!
Lockman, could you tell me: do locksmiths make copies of 1. master keys; and 2. The circular ended keys that open bike locks? Thanks!

Dear Skeleton
Thanks for the cheery welcome and nice to know someone's out there at this time (2.30am my time). I only registered tonight so I'm still finding my feet just now.
I've found them and they are walking up to bed! Suppose I better join them.
I'll catch up with you again soon.
Bye for now
lockman.

Ah, then I guess you're an Irishman perhaps? I conclude that from your timezone, since it's 4:30am here in holland.
Ok, off to bed with you... We'll see you around later

Hi Peregrin
In answer to your questions;
1. Yes, a registered locksmith should be able to duplicate Master keys but only for the registered owner of the Master Suite of locks(proof will be required-its the law).
2. I take it you mean tubular or radial pin lock keys. Yes of course I can make you copies of these but only from an existing key or from 'reading' the lock in question. If you have a code number on the key you will have to ask the lock manufacturer if they can get copies for you. I have to say though, that very few locksmiths have the facilities to deal with tubular locks and you may have a long, hard search to find anyone. If you want to send me a spare key I can always make you a copy and post it on. Give me an 'E' if you're interested.
Hope that helps, sorry for the delay in replying, been too busy to get on the PC just lately
All the best,
Alan.

Hi Skeleton
You were close when you guessed I might be an Irishman but not quite close enough. I'm actually English ( we share the same timezone you know)In fact it is our timezone and the Irish share it with us!
Any Irish people reading this, don't get upset. I have Irish relatives so in a way it's me laughing at myself. Whether you're interested or not I don't know but the Greenwich meridian passes quite close to my house and the guy who solved the problem of calculating longitude (the secret of world navigation) lived only around 20 miles from me. Suffice it to say that all time on earth is calculated from just over the road from my house so I guess the clocks in my neighbourhood must be pretty near to the right time. Or am I over-simplifying things?
Anyway, what part of Holland are you from? I lived very close to Holland for a few years and often visited for shopping, nightlife etc. It's a nice place. I lived next to the border by Roermond but I've been to many other places in Holland.
Well that's enough idle chit-chat from me for now so I'll say cheerio and hope to hear from you soon.
Yours
Alan.
