Thank you for your welcome...the site is a bit much to take in in one breath. I am curious...I do not see a way to post photos to my profile..or anywhere else, in fact.

I am an old hand at building websites, I began in 1997 and maintained them for my employer until my retirement last month. I have been drop and drag for a long while but still remember my basic html...and a little DOS...I am not seeing familiar interfaces. How is this done on h2g2.

Why isn't it HG2G? or HG2 or H2G? Why h2g2?

Douglas Adams has long been one of my favorites...I have the original HG2G on videotape, complete with commercials, from the BBC broadcasts in the early 80's (here in the USA). I have read all his other works as well. He has my kind of mind.

<./>GuideML-Clinic</.> it's a little different to HTML

It's always been h2g2 - the site was originally http://www.h2g2.com when Douglas launched it. HH - Hitch Hikers GG Guide Galaxy.

Mostly people around here call it "hootoo" and we do use references from the books so you should feel right at homesmiley - dontpanic

By photo do you mean the photo of myself and my father that you saw when you posted on my Personal Space? That came from A20980956 - the Editors make the image from a supplied photo, that option is only for <./>thepost</.> articles and Edited Guide Entries, some are supplied by Researchers like: A26602427

If you want to know how to do any of the code you see around the site, you can test any A-number page using the code:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/test26602427
(for that page I just gave you)
or if it's a Researchers' homepage (mine is U128652) which begins with a U-number, you use the code:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/testuserpage128652

Remember to change your option to "Guide ML" and then "Update" or "Save changes" to save your work (it's different in certain skins)

Don't worry about the site being a bit much to take in, 7 years ago it was just a few of us smiley - smiley and the smiley - fish I knew nothing of computer code when I joined up and I don't have to look up anything nowsmiley - biggrin

Douglas, he's much missed, and still remembered with much smiley - love
A3790659
and his User number is still U42 of coursesmiley - blue

Ah...I see. In the US Hitchhiker is one word. Must have been awesome to be able to work with Douglas Adams in the flesh! i am not sure how actively I will interact here but I am intrigued!

Take it light,

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
