Street Wise!

Be My Friend
Be my friend to walk with,
And I'll share with you my time.
Be my friend to talk with,
And I'll share with you my mind.
Be my friend in winter,
And I'll share with you the cold.
Be my friend in springtime,
And we'll see new things unfold.
Be my friend in summer,
And we can share summers fun.
Be my friend in Autumn,
And we can share what nature has done.
Be my friend for a lifetime,
Such memories we could build
For friendship should last forever,
And last even longer still.

If
If all lips spoke the truth All pride cast aside,
Greed was packed and stored away, and Jealousy subside,
If love could rule the universe,
Kindness was sown to every race,
Then one could glance into a mirror and veiw God in his face.
(16 year old girl on the street)

Dear God,
I just want someone to love me, someone to talk when I need to talk,
Someone to cry on when I need to cry, Most of all someone to love me and
Walk as far as they wish through my life. Amen
(Lost Child)

Learn to Listen
Learn to listen like a teddy bear,
With ears open and mouth closed tight.
Learn to forgive like a teddy bear,
With an open heart, not caring who is right.
Learn to love like a teddy bear,
With arms open and imperfect eyesight,
Do not ask for fulfillment in all your life,
Do not ask for perfection in all you do,
But for the wisdom not to repeat mistakes,
And finally, do not ask for more,
Before paying "Thank you,"
For what you have already received.
If you're looking for someon to blame
Look in the mirror.
There is no challenge that cannot be met,
And dream that cannot be achieved.
(A Forgotten Child)

Run Away
Scared and cold, first night on the streets
Your body hurts from your head to your feet
You miss school, not the work - it's the friends
Thinking what you'll say,
When they ask where you've been
Gotta dollar-fifty, every penny gotta spend.
Make a wrong move
-BOOM-
Your life comes to an end.
(Daniel, 16 on the street)

My Precious Jesus,
I'm hurting. To write everything would fill up this book. You know my troubles, you know my questions and you know my answers, Please help me. Give me strength and please give me what I need to be happy. Please love and take care of my cats and all the hungry people and creatures of the world.
(A Child on the Street)

Help Me
Help me, Dear Lord as I travel towards you.
There are many detours which will try to distract me away from you.
Help me as I travel my path to cherish the parents you gave me.
Help me to do my best in all my endeavors wether I may win or lose.
Help me never to lose hope though there may be difficult times.
Help me to choose the right mate, so that I may have a happy family someday.
Help me, though I may fall, to continue on my journey towards you.
Help me, Dear Lord, I want so much to be with you. Amen.
(Child on the Street)

Our Love
Sometimes I wonder how people judge our love,
They never seem to notice that it comes from Heaven above.
But if our love is strong and true and solid to the soul, then listening to them is not what we'll do. Our love will be bold. The love we have will shine through storms, no matter how rough the times. Forever and ever, we'll be together like the sun. Yes, it will shine.
(A Child on the Street)

Homeless
One the street I saw a girl cold and shivering in a thin dress, with little hope of a decent meal. I became angry and said to God; "why did you permit this? Why don't you do something about it?"
For awhile God said nothing. That night He replied quite suddenly: "I certainly did something about it. I sent you."

I am very fond of poetry, but the poem has to really move me before I will consider putting it in my collection. The above moved me when I was a kid on the street and as I read them today (as an office manager in an up and coming company) they move me still. When I read them I remembered what it was like to be thier in their shoes with little hope, and a lot of worry.

Other poems that have moved me will appear here perodically and these will be moved to my journal. If you know who wrote any of these please let me know, as I would like to give credit where credit is due.

The following was written by a friend of mine pigletrlm
As I sit in the dark I feel the quiet
It touches me Caresses me,
Calls my name yet scares me.

Its cold calculating stare
I'm afraid, but curious
Excited yet mystified
Why am I intrigued?

I run then stop I look but try not too.
Can I over come this fear?
One I can't even understand?
Or shall I accept it and invite it in?
