Charles Williams, Intrepid, Misguided Adventurer
Biddulph, 1st October 1997. While filling out his UCAS University application form, 18 year-old Charles Williams is struck by what a cool idea it would be to live and study in Berlin for a year. Since the date in question is over two years away, he selects the appropriate University course and then forgets about it.
Berlin, 1st October 1999. Waking up one Autumn morning, Charles finds himself living in a student hall of residence in Siegmunds Hof, Tiergarten and studying at the Technische Universität Berlin. Panic sets in until he remembers the events of the last two years that saw him getting AAAB in his A-Levels and gaining entry to the University of Manchester to study Electronic Engineering.
Berlin, the raw, bitter edge where the tectonic plates of East and West endlessly batter and scrape against each other. A city once living divided in the shadow of a wall, now reunited and seeking a new identity. Where better to embark on a quest to find the Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything? Charles must seek his own identity in this city of many faces, learning more about himself and the new world he inadvertently chose at the age of 18 on the way, and then to find the ultimate goal - the way Home.
