The Second Batch
Posted Apr 8, 2000
Ah, batch number two. What's in store this time? Let's take a looksee and find out...
The first was a decent Entry on Cumbernauld, Scotland. It was readily accepted.
The second was on the Loch Na Gar mountain, specifically how to hike it. I had to combine it with another Entry by the same Researcher and add some data from a forum, and it made 'Hiking the Loch Na Gar'. In the end, it was one of the best in the batch.
Next was about why Barney is not a good children's program, and it took a joke that everyone's heard about turning 'Cute Purple Dinosaur' into Roman numerals and then you end up with 666. I rejected it because jokes and fiction are not allowed in the Approved Guide.
Fourth was 'Guidelines for writers and sub-editors at h2g2' by Loonytunes. It was actually linked on the Subbing Process page and is a good Entry. However, from consulting with Ashley and the e-Group, I sent it back marked 'Maybe'.
Fifth was an awful piece of gobbledeygook about Coca-Cola. It was full of nonsense, and needed a LOT more fact to make it into the Approved Guide.
Sixth was a decent Entry about the Man in the Iron Mask. Although in an odd order, I gave it a makeover and accepted it.
Seventh was a review of J.R.R. Tolkiens 'Lord of the Rings'. It was very one-sided and did not constitute inclusion into the Approved Guide.
The eighth was on Patio Furninture. It was pretty good, and hence was accepted.
Ninth was on stupidity. To be frank, it was stupid. It was put into table form when it would have been better looking in paragraphs, and talked about a caveman named Gnaff who invented stupidity by burning his foot. This is an example of what NOT to submit, boys and girls.
Tenth was an Entry on Fencing. It was the hardest, as I combined it with two other Fencing Entries. Combining Entries is ten times as much work because I CAN'T VIEW GUIDEML SOURCE! However, I requested that this feature be included.
And after I finish this most recent batch, I'm going to write an Entry called 'Tips for Writers: Before Submitting'.
Have the best day of your life. And talk superlatively along with it.

Time Zones Suck...
Posted Apr 3, 2000
I wish I lived in Britain. Whenever I walk into a forum, no one is there. I always feel lonely. If I were British, I would walk into forums and all the other British people would be there. However, being American, I'm always too late. ALWAYS. Sigh....
That's okay, this summer, I'll be able to be online at the right times when school is not in session. Yay!

Write an Entry
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
