Just an introduction of li'l ol' me

As a disclaimer: I have arrived late to the electronic dance and I haven't yet learned how to put together a spiffy home page with any cool lights and sirens.
I am fortunate enough to have a considerate brother who advised me to check out H2G2 and was enchanted to find such a unique place to visit. ;-) I reckon I am among the minority since I am a Yank and apparently 'most everyone else is a Brit. Is that an accurate assumption? That cool with me, at any rate, because I come in contact with bunches of Americans everyday and hardly any Brits.
I live in Inglewood, California former home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings. They have recently moved from our no longer so Fabulous Forum into the monstro stadium known as the Staples Center downtown Los Angeles, a few miles away. Oh well I don't like basketball or hockey anyway, baseball is my sport, Go Dodger Blue! I am also interested in learning more about real football (called soccer here in America.)
I am a lifelong animal lover and a strong believer in adopting homeless pets, as opposed to purchasing expensive purebreds. At this moment I have two dogs, a Basset/Beagle mix named Flossie and a chocolate Labrador named Canela. Four cats called Tuffy, Nosey, Boomer and Fabiola also reside here along with Clancy the Zebra Finch and Butch the blue Budgie, as well as Jacob and Xavier the tortoises. The dogs and cats were all strays, the birds and tortoised adopted from people who could no longer care for them. If I had more room and time I would have a bunch more animals too!
I adore the Beatles (Thank God George is going to be OK) and Monty Python, especially John Cleese, hence my fondness for things British The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, first the radio show and then the books, was an especially sweet discovery for me. I thought the television version was pretty lame though. I love all kinds of music with the exception of rap and country which I usually find boring and pointless. Opera is an especial favorite of mine, with Puccini and Verdi being my favorite composers. I am in love with Placido Domingo's voice (among other things) and I dismiss Pavarotti's whole self. Pedro Infante, the Mexican movie star and singer (icon really) of the 40's and 50's is also a favorite of mine, he had a really lovely voice for boleros (romantic pop songs.)
Being a non-traditional student studying to teach elementary school is challenging and there are a lot of issues to deal with. I ony hope that I do not lose my idealism to quickly with the current situation in education here in California. Here's to keeping my head and my heart up, for the sake of our school children. Enough said about me.

So long (for now) and thanks for all the ><>,
La Tosca (aka Wendy)

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
