Hi MJ,

smiley - drool Like the entry!

I have a couple of points:

Firstly on the LS. I have a bottle in front of me and the ingredient list includes "mesquite smoke flavor" - how about you go with that, instead of using the commercial name?

Second is on the papaya. I grew up in Ghana, and it is called pawpaw there too. It is also used (in Kumasi, anyway) as a meat tenderiser. Ghanaian cuisine consists of many different stews and often it is mutton that they use smiley - yuk oftentimes tough stuff <winkeye. they wrap it in pawpaw skin for a couple of days then cook so I was wondering why Africa did not feature in the entry.

I'll have a look to see if I can find any useful info for you.

I found this and remembered something rather distasteful - the seeds are antihelminthic (dewormer ...smiley - erm)

and

This is a big page but you'll find some interesting stuff if you scroll down to "1.5 Alternative products from pawpaw"

smiley - smileyGlad to hear the recipe is tried and true.
The thought of "natural mesquite flavor" drives me to wonderin'...
I'm not a big writer so I don't know the rules for entries involving brand names. Are they not allowed?
Somehow i thought, 'Liquid Smoke and Angustura Bitters' might be an interesting entry!

Wilma - Cheers! There's loads of good stuff there, and some intriguing stuff too...smiley - erm

I might change the entry, but as I said to neon, I've swapped BBQ sauce in the original recipe and it works just as well, so I guess while I used the Original Recipe for the basis, this one is actually mine...yeah?

As far as not including Africa, I haven't found any mention of paw paw being indiginous to Africa, so left it out. For the same reason I left out Pacific Nations and Oz and NZ. Paw Paw is used in a big way in those countries too, but as it's not REALLY indiginous to them I sort of left 'em out...(very remiss, perhaps I can swing them in, but after all the Entry is about the recipe, not the origins and use of Papaya. The heading is @A Little Bit About Papya' after all smiley - winkeye

neon -

Brand names are preferred not for EG Entries, just so the BBC can't be accused of promoting something over someting else, but I think if there's a legitimate reason for their inclusion it's ok.

And go ahead, I'm sure you can write something interesting about mesquite and angosturra smiley - illsmiley - laughsmiley - winkeye

Could get messy...

I wondered about doing an Entry on Paw Paw, and looking about there aren;y that many fruits covered by the EG anyway.

There's;

A686757 Granny Smith Apples
A536492 Bananas
A7209623 Blackberries and Brambling
A284528 The Raspberry
A593453 How to Enjoy a Mango
A71731 Blood Oranges

But there is nothing on many of the citrus fruits;

Lemons, Limes

The stranger fruits like;

Paw Paw, Lychee, Rhambutan, Star Fruit

and some of the other berries;

Blueberry, Gooseberry etc.

I think I might Challenge h2g2! smiley - ok

>what about people who eat their steak "blue"? not a recipe for them?<

I direct you to the following in the Entry -

Once the meat has marinated, remove from the refrigerator and prepare your steak as you would ordinarily. smiley - winkeye (there's a link on the word seak to take you to cooking styles smiley - smiley)

The medium to well done is merely a serving 'suggestion' smiley - smiley

I wish I could afford to eat this more often though smiley - drool
