Hi, and welcome! smiley - biggrin I've been meaning to get over here and say that. It's great to see people trying creative writing again.

That said, I had an initial problem with this story - the fanfic aspect. We don't usually try it, because the Hitchhiker's Guide is such a sitting duck for emulation.

After I persevered with the story, I found something cool. You've got the makings of a lovely humorous essay there. smiley - smiley

Why not try it again without the Hitchhiker's Guide aspect? Do it in your own voice? The material reminded me a little of Charles Lamb's 'dissertation on Roast Pig', from so long ago.

Might I offer an example? This is one I did a long time ago about coffee: A25323248

Again, welcome - keep writing!

Keep writing? Don't worry, its far too much fun for me to ever stop. I say ever but obviously at some stage I am going to cease composing anything and start.. no too obvious, forget I said it.

I take your point Dmitri, I am guessing you've been around this place a while and there isn't much you haven't seen...'Oh God, not another HHGTTG mash up'......

But it's a first for me you see, having just listened to the first two radio shows for the nth time and embarking on the third, it just came out like that. And you know what? I really enjoyed it. It was fun. It made me laugh.

And sadly (another HHGTTG coming up) if I identify with any character in the whole saga it is with the real Galactic President, the guy who really isn't sure if anything exists outside his own thoughts.

I think that perhaps some people are expressing concerns at yet another hommage (or 'ommage as we say in Little Britain) but it could just be random chalk marks on a wall. I can't really say.

Thank you again for the positive comments.

Any time. smiley - smiley I understand about enjoying the radio series - I did, many moons ago - and the urge to do msah-ups, well, absolutely...

But I'm glad you'll be bringing us some non-fanfic by and bye. I want to hear what you have to say.

I'm hoping some others happen along to wave a tentacle in your direction, as well - the creative writing bunch are pretty friendly. smiley - winkeye

Hullo pebblederook! welcome to the AWW! This barbecue piece is really funny. I like the bit about not asking the ape cousins to the barbecue, and the bit about looking for Bob Geldhof. And a lot of the other bits too.

(waves tentacle thoughtfully)

I haven't been over to the AWW for ages! Good to see some creative writing appearing here again! I like to write myself, but I'm afraid I'm useless at critique, because I never studied the art, having spent my life veering off in my own eccentric direction, so not much help in that respect. However I do like to come in when I can, to acknowledge the writers and hey! and yes! and thanks for the deep, warm chuckle- feelings this piece gave me. I like that, a chuckle-feeling. smiley - rofl.

cc smiley - ok
