Entry: Pop music in the late nineties and why selling your soul to satan is bad! - A701074
Author: lonemoose - U190325

Submitted this to h2g2 peer review, and they said due to the personal opinion nature of the article they cannot post it on the edited guide without certain modifications. If I do modify it I feel that it will probably change the whole direction of the piece and will render it impotent, therefore hope you guys can find a use for it.

if you want to try for GuideML, go to 'change style' when you edit it. That way you can put headers and such in nice and easily... smiley - smiley

Hi there Ionemoose, smiley - ok

Looks like you've come to the right place! I saw the title of this one in PR and thought, "Ay up, there's one for the AWW!" Not surprised they sent you this way from PR.

Don't Panic! h2g2 is a pretty cool place and embraces all different styles of writing (in theory!). If you want to do a personal piece like this and you would like some feedback/recognition/kindred_spirit type discussion, then this is one place you might find it.

Have a look through some of the other stuff here - there should be a laugh in it for you somewhere along the line, biggrin!

I would say more about what you have written here, but I must concur with my honourable fellow researcher Mr et Al that you need to get into editing mode, change the style to GML (with the little button under the 'preview' button) and get some paragraphs in there.

The text of your paragraph here.

That is how it is done. Do you know any kind of Mark up language? If not, help is at hand at the GuideML-Clinic. You might also like to know that you can just copy other people's formatting very easily indeed: A662384. Just don't copy what's in the paragraphs! smiley - biggrin

Anyway, I look forward to reading this once you can break up the text a bit more - it's too tough on the eyes right now.

Just that we seem to get a lot of predictions of the end of the world here in <./>writing-alternative</.>. Must be something in the water... smiley - smiley

Wo! I didn't follow the rest of the PR conversation (remember me? The Zappa guy?) and I am quite surprised that this entry is here now. I thought it was good enough for the edited guide. After all we have edited entries that are far away from the guidelines. For example the old 'The Goatee - a critique' or the 'How to do a Loopty-Woopty etc..' or 'what would happen to you if travelling near lightspeed' which are either based on opinions or pure fiction.

Somehow PR is getting too earnest.

In the end I figured that if I edited it or changed any of the style or references in the piece, it would kind of take the edge off my whole argument, therefore I decided that it would be better to post it in its original form. This coupled with the fact that i am terminally lazy and will in any given circumstance take the easiest path.

The loopy woopy whatever was barred from the Guide, if I recall - on concerns over copyright infringement and unoriginality - as well as reality issues. It was recc'd, but never made it to the front page.

Yeah, but the goatee and the 'what happens at .9 lightspeed' entries made it. Pure speculation and opinion.

And there was this (admittedly beautiful) letter of a canadian soldier from Germany 1944 (or so).

Hmm,

I rather like this and certainly think it should stay in one of the review forums. However the author has not posted since February 2002, which might make it suitable for the Flea Market, rather than the AWW.

I am bumping it up to the top of the list, so that other Miners can find it easily, and say what they think.

This is just too pessimistic for my taste. It is neither the funniest or most eloquent diatribe about pop music I have ever read and the AWW sees a lot of pieces on this subject.

I suggest a move.
