Here is a little one for you, about, as you will see, my neighbourhood. It was written for a local competition, but that's over now and it belongs with Mr P, of whom you know more than they.

Great story. smiley - biggrin

I've never found a wallet, but my son did. Apparently it belonged to some Asian tourist. There was quite a lot of money in it. He brought it to the police station and never heard anything again.

Bravo! Terrific story, well characterized and told. smiley - applause Did it win the local competion? If not, you have some really talented neighbours you need to get involved with H2G2.

Thanks all. I'm not sure I will ever recover from getting UPPER CASE from DG!

The funny thing is that I didn't like the story when I wrote it, I didn't like the subject, (Changes in the borough) feeling I was supposed to tick the boxes, I hated the editing to 1000 words, I didn't like sharing Mr P, I didn't like writing to a deadline. I wrote it and put it away. Then when I looked at it yesterday, I thought it wasn't too bad, and felt it was OK to share. And, now I am glad you like it. Perhaps the discipline of competition helps.

Came second in my age group. But the important thing is that it has introduced me to 'proper' writers, and encourages me to continue. And I shall have a go at some other competitions.

That's a great story. Manages to be a 'proper' story and yet not to feel contrived at all - moves forward while all the time looking like it's doing no such thing (because that would be uncool, maybe smiley - biggrin).

Thanks very much for letting us read this one smiley - ok

This is a great story.smiley - applause

It builds tension nicely and then defuses it. And I love the characterisation of the young Mo.

Thinking about this again, although it's a great story, the title is a bit dull.

Can you think of something more interesting?

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

Flipping excellent story! smiley - applause

Personally, I think the title is fine. It belies the ending. Fab!

I agree that the title is not very interesting, but it (the wallet) is central to the story. I am happy to take on suggestions. Please feel free to nominate and vote.

How about 'In Search of a Master Criminal'?

I think that might be overstating the story a little, and lead the reader astray.

I'm over here wracking (racking?) my brains for an alternative title. smiley - laugh

'The Wallet' is what it's about, but a tiny bit of misdirection might work.

"A fat wallet" "The bulging wallet"??

'The bulging wallet' sounds good, but either would be a bit more interesting than just 'The Wallet'.smiley - smiley

Yeah, I like that.smiley - smiley

Just as a suggestion: 'The Find'? (For what it's worth, which may not be much.)

Textbook Chaos

nice short story. Maurice sounds like a bit of a diamond

Pheroneous II

Well, I have bulged, for better or worse.

I am afraid, Textbook, that Maurice is fiction. Sorry. I just wanted a happy ending!!
