When is the next blue moon?
or failing that, explain what a blue moon is...

A blue moon is the second full moon in any one calendar month.
An absolute rarity.
I can only remember one in the recent past.
I will find out when the next one is, and report back.
Although, you aren't talking about the detective agency that Maddie & Dave ran in Moonlighting, are you?
*that* was the Blue Moon Detective Agency.
Maddie was played by Cybill Shephard.
Dave was played by Bruce Willis.
They had some fabulous guest stars & lots of fun...
Tell me if you'd like to hear more about Moonlighting...

I've actually got 'I see a bad moon rising' going through my head at the moment... sung appaulingly in a lift...
There's still more points to get...

Sorry, I thought Archangel Galaxy Babe was right. I'm pretty sure this question comes up on Fifteen-to-One a lot, and that's the answer they gave...

Really? Well if you check out the first site I gave, they hold their hands up and say "mea culpa" (can't be bothered to work out how to pluralise that) about the second in a month definition, but perhaps it's entered the popular conciousness enough to be considered in some sense "right". Indeed many of the site refer to the "third of four" version as the "traditional" blue moon. We'll see what the Cow reckons.

Sorry! I really wanted to see what the reaction would be to a question which had a right answer and an even righter answer!
So to the points...
Eight go to Bagpuss for finding the 4/summer reference, as well as the date in the month, and the fact that there's some ambiguity depending on the location on the planet (if the moon is on the cusp of Winter), and generally taking this quiz away today.
Two go to the Archangel, for a gallant attempt (which all signs at that website seem to say are right) and lots of hugs and kisses (even if they weren't directed at me)
I'll update the scores tomorrow... just incase there's a later entry

Oh poot... and there me was thinking it was a moon with depression... oh well... just goes to prove me better at posting questions than answering them... ~grin~

I could also mention that after Krakatoa's eruption, the moon did actually appear blue, or is that just showing off?
Anyway, I'd like to thank the Cow and the Ask Jeeves website. I take my hat off to my opponents.
