A4421774 - Waiting for God

Hey, Flame!
Great to see you back. (I did some checking, and found somebody already realised 2 weeks ago - as if I'd read HIS e-mails)
This is good (as ever) too. Not quite sure about the title, because of the BBC sitcom connotation. Emily certainly isn't Stephanie Cole. The name 'Tom' compounds the problem.
I wonder if this piece is personal. It seems very wistful. But, then again, we know already that you can project a character's emotions effectively.
As well as wistful, it has a tranquility that's reassuring. The last paragraph is very thought-provoking. The economy of it is a reminder that death is both simple and strange.
Like I said, great to see you back, adding to what's already something of a resurgence in h2g2's creative writing.

Ahem. Yes, it's me the fella whose emails don't get read.
I have no idea what Pin means about the BBC sitcom. If that doesn't totally ruin it, it would be good to keep the title. I like the title.
The piece was up to your usual quality - but I see you didn't go with a twist at the end... I wish I could show newer folks who may be reading this thread your older entries but most of them are deleted . There are three UG ones - A2893007, A2983061 and A3527246
Great to see you back, Flame .

Hello Pin and Jodan,
Thanks for the welcome Pin. Nice to be back on board again.
The story isn't from any personal experience, just how I feel somebody could be thinking about growing old. I know there is no twist to the end but I didn't have that in mind anyway. Just my usual rambling....
I'd forgotten that once upon a time there was a sitcom called Waiting for God so I've reluctantly changed my title. I never was much good at thinking of titles for any of my work - so if anyone has any ideas for a new title for this entry please send your ideas over.
I still have my other work, maybe I could post one or two bits of it back again at some later date.
Thanks for your comments guys, as always - much appreciated.

Back and in true form, the flame burns as brightly as ever. You've graced us with another fine piece, though there's nothing unusual in that when you're weilding the pen.
Crafted with skill and care, just like old lace. Each stich so lovigly cast, it's ivory patina earned through a life lived, the very fabric softened with time. Poignant indeed. Yes, this story has a soul and you've succeeded in sharing it with the world.

Great to see you back Flame .
I like it. No twist, but that unelaborated calm finish is unusual in itself.

Ah good to see you back! Took me a while to get through my backlog and find this
I also enjoyed this. There are a few points where I wonder how putting in semi-colons or even splitting things into sentences would change the way it read.
Oh...the title of this post isn't the same as the entry title...er which one are we using?
I think I'll be very probably the only person who thinks this, but...doesn't Emily die rather suddenly? Although people do do that in real life...oh now I'm not very sure.

Just a note to let you know that I read this and thought it was good. Reminded me that all creatures have life cycles.
