Actually, the street and highway rebuilding projects in Columbus are known far and wide. A guy at work was in California a few years ago, for a professional class. When introductions were made the first day, and he told everyone he was form Columbus, someone from the west coast (some 2000+ miles away) said, "Oh...... the orange barrel capital of the world." 
Since completion 25yr ago, the 60 miles of the I-270 loop have been in a continual state of reconstruction.
